I fell in love with it from the get go. Probably my second favourite. (The No.1 has to be the first theme)
The only issue I have with the first theme is that I just find it too long…
The second one just gets me in the “mood” for Gallifrey
What do you mean by “too long”??? I can’t get enough of that tune! I even cut out the bit and stored it in my phone so I can put it on repeat when I want to feel a bit Gallifreyan
I really like the WR theme but my overall favourite is the series 4 one
That’s my favourite one as well
@AlfieSigma I love the theme, I just think it takes too long when I want to get to the story. And it gets a bit repetitive after a while, of it was cut down to about 45 seconds I think it would be just perfect.
Having a “Gallifrey” day today
Third episode of War Room 1 “Collateral Victim”.
What an inventive script, I really liked this one. Best one of the box set so far.
Rasmus is turning out to be a really interesting Time Lord character
4,5/5
Listening to “The First Days of Phaidon”.
Oh Leela…
LEELA: This is Narvin. My… Narvin.
you can imagine how much I SCREAMED when I first heard that. 10/10 episode
Is it on the quotes yet? It should be a quote! Along with “My dear, sweet Leela” from Erasure
‘you do have the most devastating smile’
Wait which episode does that come from?
Erasure it s at the start of the episode; I might not be remembering exactly word for word but ‘devastating smile’ is definitely in there. episode designed to destroy me
Can’t believe I don’t remember that… Must’ve been too focused on the story Narvin’s telling
“The First Days of Phaidon” was indeed an amazing story And so very emotional.
That scene with Leela and Narvin near the end
5/5 for sure
War Room 1 is a really good season, best one since Time War 2 I’d say.
Two good introduction stories to War Room and two fantastic stories at the end. I can’t wait to listen to the next one
I hope you enjoy WR2 as well! I love WR2 - Transference and Ambition’s Debt in particular made me lose my mind a little (a lot…)
Listened to the first two stories of the second War Room Boxset.
Collaborators was really great, and Leela and Narvin together 4,5/5
I was a bit surprised at how much I liked Remnants considering it mainly consists of the newer members of the Gallifrey Gang.
The dynamic between The General and Rasmus is fantastic, but I’m not really sold on Veklin yet. 4/5
I am very much fully onboard with “Gallifrey: War Room” now
(Just give me a bit of Romana again… and Brax… and Ace… and Trey… and K-9…)
I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear you say that
But I am pleased you’re liking WR! It is a good direction for Gallifrey to be going in, but I too miss the og gang I need Romana backkkkkk even if it’s not Romana ii
And you know where K9 is! He’s enjoying his holiday with Professor Gryffen!!
Can you “sell” Veklin to me?
Has she been in Big Finish stuff other than Gallifrey that I might not have heard?
And I agree, “War Room” is a much better approach for “Gallifrey” in terms of the setting of the Time War than “Time War” was in my opinion. Though I enjoyed quite a lot of the “Time War” stuff as well
(Narvin feeding chickens )
Louise Jameson saying in the behind the scenes stuff that she feels sure that Leela will meet Romana again at some point fills me with a bit of hope on that front
No you are thinking about K9, I am talking about K-9. Big difference
Honestly it was after Ambition’s Debt that Veklin really started scratching an itch for me, and she’s great in Susan’s War, but I think what it comes down to in Gallifrey is the way she’s a parallel to Leela. They both are underestimated and fighting to be heard by people who don’t see them for who they are, but the difference is that - as far as Veklin must see it - that Leela has been handed it to her by being Romana’s special friend, and now in WR people like the General are actually respecting and admiring Leela, while Veklin wants that so desperately and isn’t getting it.
And I guess what I like is the way that, instead of trying to work with Leela or be a better person, she just seethes and wants to watch Leela suffer. I also find her relationship with Ollistra to be quite delicious, because Ollistra clearly uses her as a blunt weapon and manipulates her like crazy - when you listen to AD, you will see exactly the bit which made my head explode.
I grant you that a fair amount of her characterisation and backstory is kind of made up in my head, but I am extrapolating from what I hear, which is a person who is so desperate to be recognised and wanted that she drags other people down out of bitterness.
It has to happen. They are the heart and soul of Gallifrey, it just doesn’t work as well without them both
Veklin also features fairly heavily in the John Hurt War Doctor series.
