In my corner of the world, during my youth, herbal teas (technically not real teas) were the go-to. Especially chamomile, because it’s grown in Bavaria, but also peppermint. Green and black tea, although available, only became popular later on. As far as I remember, this was due to documentaries about people in Asia staying healthy in old age because of drinking green tea.

I started drinking black tea at university, and nowadays, I can drink huge amounts before bedtime and still sleep like a baby. I guess all the receptors in my brain that react to caffeine are blocked after decades of drinking this stuff.

Back then, Chinese exchange students (I “worked” as a counselor for exchange students) introduced me to some really fine green teas. But in the end, I still got stuck with black tea.

As I am forever curious, I also tried to understand tea better. I found the following video (and other videos by Mei Leaf quite interesting:

The video’s really informative. Love it.

I recently discovered that if I make my green tea with room temperature water instead of 70°C it tastes a bit sweeter and smooth, and I can carry it around in a water bottle for a day and it still tastes good enough.

Just a reminder. We all need this now & again

Tea is one of the cliched ways I stick onto my Britishness here in the misbegotten colonies, and I have also trained myself to fall asleep reliably after two or three cups of sugary tea between 9pm and 11pm. God knows what it’s doing to me but it’s dreadfully comforting.

I still recall with a shudder getting served tea with foamed latte milk in Atlanta after making the mistake of just asking for “tea with milk” in a coffee shop.

I was having a look at my audible recommendations, just browsing.

Noticed Skyward in my recommendations (because I’d been reading through Sanderson’s bigger series: The Cosmere)

Did a full double take when I noticed the narrator

My new glasses were supposed to arrive today. Instead, the delivery time got later and later, and then it got marked as “Incomplete address, returned to sender”. The address on the receipt I was sent was right.

Sent an email to the glasses place. I’ve got a feeling what happens next is that it gets sent back out, and they try to deliver it on Thurs, given that I may have jury duty Thursday… (It’s Tuesday night, my time.)

I’m really hoping that it turns out I don’t have to report for jury duty, given this is giving me enough issues as it is.

(And yes, the post office has delivered things to my address without issue before…)

Oh my! I need to listen to this now. But there’s so much to read up on the Cosmere first

I think I’m going to take a break from the Cosmere soon, or I’ll get a burnout.

Despite tracking my glasses yesterday saying they were returned to sender, they nonetheless arrived in the mail today. These ones are progressives, which I haven’t had before, so I’m trying to get used to them and the way they transition between different prescriptions. (Part of me feels like going online and buying a cheap backup pair that aren’t progressives, now that I have a prescription…)

I also checked my jury status tonight for tomorrow… and the status was Service Complete. So no jury duty this time.

So they’ve beaten the girl who had the record? I’m always a bit suspicious of these records simply because I bet there are fans out there with larger collections - they just haven’t counted them. I bet my collection is bigger  .

Also as US fans the amount that must have cost them!! :anguished:

Remember how we joke about Spare Parts being the Genesis of the Cybermen? Well, Big Finish took that very seriously!

Genesis of the Cybermen coming in March 2025!

There’s been a global pandemic wiping out all but about 10% of the population. Sacrifices have to be made.

But surely the remaining humans need to repopulate the Earth?
Doesn’t sideburns work on women as a Peacock’s plumage does on a Peahen?
