Never - it’s too ingrained in my life. I sometimes don’t watch a lot of it on TV but I’ve always got audios, books, comic strips etc on the go. TARDIS Guide has made me consume even more than I was over the last few years.

Not really. Is it in terms of TV or Doctor Who in general? If it’s the latter then I haven’t because I’m always involved with the show in some way

Only whenever I get burn out, so never significant breaks and only with the EU/watching back catalogue. I’m always watching the TV show when it airs

That being said if you feel you need one, there’s nothing wrong with taking one!

I’m asking about taking a break from watching the new episodes.

Yes. During the 12th Doctor era. I was going to with this era, but might carry on given I enjoyed last weeks. But its not ‘appointment to view’ telly for me.

Oh goodness no. New episodes is a ‘watch it on day or as soon after as possible’ - for someone who became a fan during the Wilderness Years, new episodes are too precious to ignore.

Even when I wasn’t super enjoying the Chibnall era it was still event TV for me. Its ingrained in me that I must watch when it airs, hence my strong distaste for the early releases. Retrospect’s also a beautiful thing. In years to come you may look back and love it! I’ve done a total 180 on Chibnall’s era lately.

Lux was the first story I’ve missed live in maybe a decade :sob: I was a couple hours late.

Ah. I still haven’t. I’ve been watching them “live” since series 12 since that’s when I was first caught up with the show. (live is in quotation marks since I could only watch the show on max which releases the episodes almost a year later).

I did for a while when I was busy with school work and other part-time work, both from the main show and BF. Then I came back and catched up with 13’s run, then dived in even into BF that I don’t think I could ever get out

No, never for me either - no matter what, I don’t think there’s anything that would stop me watching outright

Yes. I originally watched it back in 2006, then took a 7-year break before returning to it in 2013. Haven’t had any breaks since.

I mean, it technically counts even if it’s not what you meant

Edit: on a more serious note, if you feel like the current show isn’t for you, then you shouldn’t be afraid to take a break. You shouldn’t force yourself to watch something you don’t enjoy. There’s always other stuff you can enjoy!

When I was doing my Big watch-through of Classic, I took a decent break around Power of Kroll when Tom Baker fatigue set in. I don’t remember if also took a break from the audios or not. But I remember it talking a while to get up up the gumption to watch Kroll and keep going.

Then no, not at all. The only break from watching new episodes was in between Series 12 and 13 when we switched from Dish (which had BBC America) to our current Amazon Fire Stick. Then I just had to wait until the library got the DVDs for the end of the Chibnall era.

I did during my later years of high school/early college. Hyperfixations sort of go in cycles for me, so I took a little bit of a break from it. I still loved Doctor Who, but I wasn’t actively keeping up/participating in fandom during that time.

Edit: and just to echo what MrColdStream said, it’s ok to step away for a while if you feel like you’re not really enjoying current stuff! Everyone likes different things. Plus, I don’t think not keeping up with the current era precludes you from continuing to be a fan of Doctor Who in general and wanting to talk about past stuff, if you want to do so.

I really enjoyed The Well, unfortunately people keep commenting on that topic so it always seems like I’m 230 replies behind.

Folks I have a genius pitch: Big Finish should make budget sets that are only 10-20 mins long each called Little Finish

(sorry @Jamie for making you my test audience for this)
