I only liked the first four books of Artemis
After that, It kind of devolved and had a pretty poor endgame
Ironically, It’s very obvious that there wasn’t much of a plan with these books
Speaking of stuff created by Neil Gaiman - Sandman and “Extended Sandman Universe”.
I loved the original Sandman comics and also really liked the 2013-2015 “The Sandman: Overture”. The Netflix TV adaptation I watched 3 times so far. Just brilliant. (And as a goth, owning hardcover editions of the Death comics, I say: the Death portrayed by Kirby Howell-Baptiste is just perfect. All the talks about her skin color are just rubbish.)
Regarding the extended universe: The Books of Magic we already mentioned.
Death Boy Detective now has a sometimes brilliant but consistently well-crafted live-action adaptation on Netflix.
Hellblazer / Constantine could be (or are?) a franchise of its own. Still, I take it as part of the extended universe. Most of the comics are great. And I really enjoyed the short-lived TV series with Matt Ryan, as well as Matt Ryan reprising his role later on in the Arrowverse.
You know, while Sandman took significant liberties with the casting, Death was not one of the ones I had any trouble with. She was absolutely brilliant in the role and immediately was Death.
Lucifer was one it was fairly inevitable I’d have trouble with, because the only real faithful casting would be David Bowie, and he had very good reasons not to be available. Lucien also took some getting used to. (They were played well, though. I was just expecting them to be completely different.)
Speaking of Lucifer - Lucifer - TV Show also ‘extended sandman universe’.
I thought Tom Ellis did quite a good job with his interpretation of Lucifer Morningstar (even if it wasn’t a faithful comic version). I enjoyed the show for a few seasons. In my opinion, it didn’t know when to stop, as so many shows do, and ran too long. But I read where they went with the storyline, and I guess it is a nice whole. Maybe sometime I’ll find the time to (re-)watch.
That’s, admittedly, one of these adaptations that I just straight never got around to watching. I did enjoy the comics, though!
I voted for Star Trek, Stargate and Babylon 5.
Wait, B5 wasn’t on the list? Heresy! SG was missing? Tragedy!
But yeah, I’m always excited by new Trek. While I generally enjoy Star Wars and superhero stuff and pretty well watch anything that comes along, I wouldn’t consider myself gung ho on them. But maybe I should have counted them too.
My main franchise is Star Wars, but much more of the Legends stuff (pre-Disney EU) though I have enjoyed some of the newer novels and comics. The 19-book New Jedi Order series, 9-book Legacy of the Force series and the Legacy comic series are among my favorites. In fact, Jan Duursema’s art is my gold standard for comic book art.
I’ve dabbled in Trek, though I haven’t watched any of the new stuff, and think Voyager is my favorite series. I dabble in Marvel and DC, though I gravitate much more to the Marvel side. I’ve kinda fallen away from the MCU lately, missing most of the latest stuff. Guardians of the Galaxy 3 was the most recent movie I watched.
The other franchises that I’m really into are Jurassic Park, always have loved Dinosaurs, and Assassin’s Creed, played nearly every game, only beaten the main story in Origins and Odyssey though, and watched the cutscenes on YouTube for all of them.
I love that franchise too and dinosaurs. I never get why dinosaurs have this stigma of being for kids. Dinosaurs are both cool and a fascinating period of history.
Great game is Jurassic World Evolution 2. It’s a park-builder from Frontier Games.
Yep, have that on Xbox. Great game.
I really enjoyed Lucifer. It’s a shame they fumbled in the 2nd half of the last season.
Ooo, other franchises! I do enjoy Star Wars and Star Trek, but I haven’t super kept up with them. Always enjoyed TNG and Voyager, and I’ve seen a couple seasons of Lower Decks which I really enjoyed. Star Wars… yeah I’m burnt out. I really love The Mandalorian, but otherwise lack interest in the rest of the Disney shows. I actually liked The Last Jedi but felt the next film fumbled things. I only saw them on release so I may need to reevaluate. I watched The Clone Wars tv series as a kid, and have tried to watch it again now, but my interest for it fluctuates.
I discovered Buffy and Angel a couple years ago and binged until midway season 5 of Buffy and season 2 of Angel. I’ve been meaning to get back into those.
Otherwise, I really enjoy Nintendo games, particularly Super Mario and Donkey Kong. The recent generations of Pokemon and all their problems made me fall out of love for that franchise. Hoping the next games are better.
Doctor Who is the most engaged I am with any of them. It’s my obsession and I love it especially getting into classic mainly around the start of the pandemic, it lifted my love for the series to new heights!
I’m a big fan of the Buffyverse (I actually rewatched two of the episodes today). I first watched it under recommendation from a friend and stopped somewhere during S5, though I don’t remember why. A few months ago I decided to revisit it and watch along with Angel this time, and while I finished Buffy I did have to skip half of S3 and all of S4 of Angel (I just really hate baby plots), but I had a lot of fun. My controversial opinion is that S6 of Buffy is actually the best one and everyone who thinks it’s the worst is wrong.
Nintendo make the best games. You can’t go wrong with Nintendo.
Oh yeah, the Buffyverse too. Would we consider Firefly to be a “franchise”? That’d be on my list too, if it were.
I’m gonna call ITC a franchise, a lot of those shows felt like they were happening in the same universe.
The Saint, The Avengers, The Champions, Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased), The Persuaders, Danger Man & The Prisoner et al.
This is definitely a sign…
Doctor Who × Star Trek
Friendship is Universal
It’s Handles!

Probably because ITC sounds similar to ITV, it makes me think of the Agatha Christie IP, especially the brilliant, just brilliant adaptation of her books about Hercule Poirot with David Suchet in the titular role.
Regarding Miss Marple: Not really good adaptations, but a favorite of mine in my youth were the Miss Marple movies with Margaret Rutherford as Miss Marple. Later on, I much more enjoyed Joan Hickson as Miss Marple. I guess she is for the franchise on Miss Marple’s side what David Suchet is for Hercule Poirot.
But I also did enjoy other interpretations of both of them and, of course, read all the books.
I also do love the tribute to Agatha Christie The Unicorn and the wasp.
All this talk of other franchises for me rewatching Star Trek TNG from the beginning
