I don’t think it was necessarily without their consent. Weird though that Ruby was chipped even though she’s not apparently a UNIT employee. And again, why wasn’t Mel at work?

Because then he couldn’t name them after his favorite blonde from 2005!!!

I also don’t like that he gave a meaning to the dead name. All just feels a little tone deaf to me. If you’re gonna add it at all it shouldn’t have as much meaning to it as her actual name

I actually liked it; it says nothing about Rose but is a little bit of character for Donna, since she’s the one who actually chose it, which I think was the intent. They both went for names connected to the Doctor. That said…

Her being called Rose removes the agency of being a trans person and choosing her own name. Her name isn’t influenced by a name she’s always loved, a flower, a character - whatever it might be. Her name was chosen because through the 10’s side of her memories and influences, that name stuck out as important and beautiful.

I think this is a good point. She didn’t choose a name related to the Doctor themself like Donna did; she chose the name of his crush. Which is just one step too far removed to be believable imo. (But then, she also made a plushie of Karvanista, whom the Doctor hadn’t even met at the time of the metacrisis, so clearly I’m putting more thought into this than RTD.)

It sort of felt like she was made to be trans because of the meta crisis stuff. Specifically
non binary. She wasn’t actually trans, and this was just the result of what the meta crisis sort of…made her?

I don’t think so. The metacrisis magic stuff wasn’t dependent upon her saying “nonbinary” (which, of course, made no sense anyway), just upon her being Donna’s biological child. I could be wrong, because I only watched the full episode once - just didn’t like it - but I don’t think the DoctorDonna heritage influenced her gender; it just gave her time lord abilities.

It was such a ludicrous statement to make by RTD. 13 wasn’t even wearing a dress, she was wearing gender neutral clothes, and it’s kind of dangerous to imply men can’t wear dresses in today’s modern climate.

Yup. I suspect at this moment in time, even RTD may not know who or what Billie Piper is.

RTD did say in the latest issue of DWM that we’re getting David and Billie in the next unleashed, so it’ll probably get some mention there

Wonder if (and hope that) she will be considered the Sixteenth Doctor if the show doesn’t return. It gets to a point in that situation where RTD kind of has to say “oh I ALWAYS wanted Billie to be [whatever he’s just decided he always wanted]” so that we don’t get eighty different expanded universe things being in direct competition about the status of the Doctor (not like it hasn’t happened before, but it’s best to be avoided, surely).
