Similar to the Big Finish Wishlist thread, I though it could be nice to have a thread to discuss our wishlists, and predictions, for Season 3.
RTD said in DWM a while ago, I think around the start of RTD2, that the plan would be to increase the episode count so I’d like them to go to 10 episodes. I think this is highly likely, especially as we are likely in for a larger break than between S1/2.
I’d love another classic companion return where its part of the focus of the story, like School Reunion, rather than a cameo appearance.
I’d also like them to round off the Pantheon storyline, but I’m not sure how they can do that given we’ve had Sutekh already.
I was thinking of perhaps writing out a brief description of what I’d like from every episode, similar to what some people have done in the showrunner fantasy tag!
Aside from the obvious ‘give us more episodes’ bit…
Let Ncuti fight the Daleks!! I’ve said this before but I think the idea of Davros wanting to usurp Sutekh’s place as the god of death would be so in character and would let them do some really cool stuff in mixing the Daleks with the fantasy elements of this era
I really think 15 should do a pirate story. Full on pirates of the Caribbean, zombie pirates, swashbuckling nonsense - he would fit right in. And maybe something similar to Boom except the characters have to all keep on moving the entire episode or something.
15 vs one of the big 3! If The Master make it an incarnation from before The Time War (i.e. new actor playing an incarnation we haven’t seen before, but this incarnation isn’t post Missy or post Spy)! 10 episodes with a 3 person TARDIS Team! Return of Rogue! And maybe a classic monster!
I would love to see more episodes in Africa, I think there’s a richness of potential there. I’d also love to shift away from the gods stuff - personally I prefer my DW on the less fantasy side so I’m starting to find RTD2 a little tedious on that front (which I know is entirely subjective, but)
Less RTD-penned Scripts and more new Writers. If you want you can bring back a few Writers such as Inua Ellams or Maxine Alderton, but the focus should be on fresh new Blood and Writers who didn’t pen that many Scripts before for Who. No Moffat. No Chibnall.
An Increase of two more Episodes would be great
More Scenes set in the TARDIS
Please Murray, keep the Volume down. I said it already for a few Episodes, but sometimes his Music goes a bit overboard and make it hard to make the Dialogue out.
I really hope IF possible, let’s keep 15 & Berlinda around for the next Season
If Berlinda leaves for some Reason, the next Companion should be not from modern Day Earth.
If one of the big Three returns, please be it the Daleks. I do think RTD is excellent at writing them and rather have him do them again instead of bringing back a classic Villain
I really hope we don’t get any more Pantheon Stories/Episodes
If they still have a Budget Increase, exploring other Cultures would be great, like @sircarolyn mentioned: Africa would be a great Place to explore!
Some of the things I’m hoping for, with varying levels of likelihood, are
No overarching plot, just an episodic monster-of-the-week format, and a finale that isn’t trying to be the biggest threat to the universe ever
Relatedly, lots of different writers that are given freedom to do their own thing in each story. Maybe some of the best EU writers. Definitely some new writers.
Faction Paradox /hj
Belinda to stay as a companion for a second series, because one (8-episode) series isn’t long enough to get to know someone, and I like her a lot (though idk whether it’s been confirmed that she’s leaving at the end of series 15?)
Gallifrey to be un-destroyed again
Pure historicals!
Seeing some of the rooms in the TARDIS other than the control room
ALIEN COMPANIONS PLEASE I’M BEGGING YOU RTD
Small scale stories about random alien civilisations instead of these silly pantheon things that keep showing up in 15’s era
Regarding music — I think it would be so cool to have a rotating cast of composers! A different person each episode (or every few episodes) would make the sound of the show feel so fresh and exciting.
Less UNIT, or at least show them doing more scientific research/don’t uncritically praise them all the time
Bring back Luke, Rani, and Clyde (or at least reference them)
Adding on to that: in the Three Doctors TOTT minisode, Clyde says that Luke and his husband Sanjay are working on a UNIT space station (one instance of UNIT in the next season that I would be fine with), and that could be a neat setting for the episode, especially since Sanjay has never made an appearance in any medium
New writers!
More stories set in the Victorian era (I’m a sucker for those)
I know it’s a family show, but I would love it if there were more horror aspects
10 episode season! I think it would really help with character development
More rooms of the TARDIS than just the control room
Companion that’s an alien and/or from a different time
An arc that has a satisfying conclusion with loose ends tied up and no glaring plot holes that fall apart if you’ve watched any of the main show or listened to/watched/read EU media that features a key aspect of the main show
Less leaks! I look in the leak thread because I’m nosy and want to see what’s been leaked, but that doesn’t mean things should’ve been leaked in the first place y’know
For it to be aired at a reasonable time in my time zone
My gosh, please. And doubly for stories that aren’t about colonists and the like. This probably won’t happen, but one of my wants for Fifteen’s era prior to his first companion being revealed was for him to have a black companion (so much for Ryan lol) because I think that would make for a nice dynamic, especially as this is the “first” time the Doctor has occupied a body like his.
It seems like we’re not getting season 3 in 2026, but I think it would be cool if we could get some specials in between, kinda like the tennant/jodie specials, but with another season of 15 after. Easter, Halloween, and Christmas please!
I’d love a return to it airing in the early evening. Midnight was awful (1am here), 9am is a lot better but it really belongs as event television. I’m glad the finale will be doing that.
Echoing this also, very much one of my major gripes with this era.
