As I’ve said before, I was a bit disappointed that it was the first episode as I don’t think it did a great job of potentially introducing new people to the show (and Ruby’s intro was rushed) but I enjoy the episode more with every rewatch!
So to answer the question, it shouldn’t have been episode 1.

I guess “The Devil’s Chord” could work with very little rewriting.
- Ruby enters the TARDI-BOX at the end of Church on Ruby Road
- “It’s a time machine, where do you want to go?”
- “1963 to see the Beatles”
- Bang - action.

I mean, we got goblins, a fairy circle, and a god of death. The show itself is pretty supernatural.

I love the episode, but I’d cut out the bodily humor and make the antagonist something that isn’t so vulgar. I think I’d also make it so the babies can’t speak (as in, they’re more like human babies), but then that would defeat the plot.

Commenting on this again since it seems we’re getting quite the opposite episode 1 in Season 2 than we had with Season 1 where it was very lighthearted and childish,how did yall feel on Space Babies and do you think S2E1 will be better or worse than it?

I don’t think this episode is quite as bad as some people would make it out to be, but I don’t think it’s particularly good either, I don’t mind the monster, and babies all alone on a space station is a novel concept, but I think having the babies talk is just a bit too camp for my tastes. Idk it’s a real middle of the road episode, if it was released in the middle of the season, I don’t think it would quite be as hated, but as a “first” episode, yeeeeeeeeeah.
