Episode Discussion: Lucky Day

Same I didn’t like their relationship for some reason , it came out of nowhere :sob:

Well, that was definitely not The Well hahahahhaa. I was left feeling underwhelmed with last week episode, I watched this one without much hope and I loved it! I really love seeing Kate being fed up with conspiracies and just making Conrad suffer.

I never felt this much of a rage while watching a Doctor episode before is this normal :sob: I WISH RUBY PUNCHED HIM IN THE FACE

I’ve updated the photo for this episode because I actually feel the one I had (Ruby at UNIT) is more spoiler-ish than I first thought it would be!

Very well-put - taking it one step further, you could even speculate that Alan became the way he was because of grifters and reactionaries like Conrad, the irony being that he in turn is shaped by his relationship with his mother - given that we last see Conrad being recruited by Mrs Flood, a “mother figure” who is presumably going to support his beliefs in some way, I think there is potential for some very interesting commentary on cycles of trauma in the finale (assuming there is time amidst all the (trailer and synopsis spoilers) giant bone monsters and unholy trinities).

Another banger for season 2/15/41. Three episodes in sequence I quite liked. If the second half is as good as these, shaping up to be one of my favorite seasons ever!

THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE! Not to mention this episode’s Doctor hasn’t even met Belinda Chandra yet , he heard about her from Condrad , it is possible Alan was one of the followers

Mulling it over, I think you might be onto something with this. Alan and Conrad’s similiarities combined with Mrs. Flood at the end of this episode in particular could be leading into… well, creating another Planet Of The Incels. Reading what you said, I immediately thought of the twist ending in that rubbish Stepford Wives remake (the only part of that movie I remember liking), and if nothing else, I like the possibility of that idea being used in a better story.

Do these people purposely want to misinterpret every DW episode they watch? :sob: “There no morals” whattt , also DW can have any kind of story so I hate these kind of arguments , it doesn’t make sense

And ain’t that what makes DW so wonderful? There really is no single episode for everyone. Even the most lauded episodes have thèr detractors whilst the most derided have their champions. From week to week, we’re offered up something new. I loved both The Well AND Lucky Day but in different ways and for very different reasons. Lucky for me, huh? But even when an episode doesn’t quite land for me, I know there’s something still to come that’ll shake things up and thrill me once again.

Personally, I feel this season is mining a very rich vein of form. Loving the diversity of storytelling and the greater depth we’re seeing from Ncuti. That speech this week? Flawless.

Anger and media literacy don’t mix well.

I’ll wake up in heaven the day people realize different kind of stories can co-exist , especially in a show like Doctor Who

oh boy did I watch a different episode to you guys because I don’t think I liked that… I thought the story it was telling was very pertinent and necessary and timely, and I thought Conrad’s actor knocked it out of the park but like. I need to mull on this a little more but it was just a bit silly wasn’t it really.

I didn’t enjoy the Ruby’s boyfriend stuff, I really don’t like the Vlinx, and I feel likr Kate’s characterisation over the years has grown really muddled. I don’t know. It just didn’t work for me

Criticisms like that are always weird, but ESPECIALLY when directed at Doctor Who.

Like… it can literally take place anywhere and anywhen with anyone; what about that says “it’s about one thing and one thing only”?

It feels like Ibrahim is just there because…he is

Yes, reading something like this, I always think there has to be some degree of wilful misunderstanding (or just plain trolling) going on, to be honest. Plenty of stories throughout the history of Doctor Who contain such revolutionary takes as “don’t hate gay people” and “women and men are equal”, so you would have to be deliberately ignoring those to write something like this. I just try to ignore it, but it is very frustrating that people like this somehow exist and choose to poison a lot of the discourse surrounding the show.

Honestly 60th would’ve been the perfect opportunity to bring in a character from Kate’s BF spin off which has more than ten series ! But no.. :sob:

I’m one of the people who was hoping Kate would be a lesbian :sob:
