Thanks for the invite that sounds interesting. I’ll make sure to check it out.
I also like to go for arcs. For example i’m listening to the audios with 7th, Ace and Hex so i can listen to ‘A Death in the Family’ with all its context. I started all of this in my desire to hear the 8th Doctor, so listened to all his audios in MR in order. Also i to listen to the ones where there are audio only companions in order.

Might be a bit late to party but might as well name a few favorites from the MR (which I listen not in order more so which story or doctor may appeal to me the most, though I definitely did listen to more from the first 100, anyway some favorites for me include:
-Zagreus
-Chimes of Midnight
-Scherzo
-Omega
-Warzone/Conversion
-The Apocalypse Element
-Spare Parts
-Fanfare for the common men
-The Wormery
Speaking of the monthly Range, I’d wonder which Doctor and their stories surprises you the most in them?

Listening not in order definitely a good way to go. Alas, I am a chronological kind of person so I’m slogging my way through. Good picks though, I agree with many of them!
For myself, I’m most often surprised when I enjoy a Fifth Doctor story because unfortunately he is not my favourite and I often find him dull on audio.
Speaking of which, I listened to #160 The Jupiter Conjunction today and alas found it kind of average. Which honestly I’ll take for the MR because at its worst, it can be realllllyy bad haha

That’s very valid! Personally I am somebody who loves to go a bit in the “Pick and chose” way with Who, which would leave me with some of the bad ones maybe around the end, but really the ones I listened so far were at worst kinda boring and at best utterly amazed me.
And that’s fair, I think five is one that is played wonderful by Peter and shines really with those where he kinda blows up or with the interesting concept stories (fanfare and warzone are good examples for that, I believe the latter still awaits you, excited to hear your thoughts when you come around to it!)
Fanfare and Warzone are upcoming still for me, and I’ve never heard either! There are a couple of MR stories I haven’t got to yet on my Grand Listen but I am excited to hit the 1963 trilogy, partly because I’ve only heard good things about all those stories, and because one of them is The Assassination Games which is an episode I love because Counter-Measures gang
And for sure, I’d agree that mostly the worst you’ll get is being bored by and large, which in the grand scheme of things isn’t the worst thing that could happen, but when you’ve done five dull ones in a row it gets a little tiresome

Oh, I see, well I hope you enjoy! Fanfare was one I really dig for its gimmick, that you probably heard of already, but I won’t spoil. And yeah that’s fair, still need to get around that one!
And yeah, although I argue, I rather have a bad story than a boring one any day. Probably not a take many agree but really at least a bad one makes me feel something or have some thoughts, a boring will just be an “eh” from me

As I always say, THE worst thing a DW story can be is boring. At least if it’s bad I have a lot to complain about, which is the age old favourite hobby of the DW fan

Absolutely agree - across all of Doctor Who media, the worst crime, for me, is when something is boring rather than when it is bad. Bad stories at least seem like they tried to make something good.

Yeah, this exactly! Also, with bad ones some of them at least have some interesting Ideas, whereas boring ones never really have a good hook (mostly) to begin with.

and honestly there are very few, actually bad, stories. Some are spread too thin, others are too ambitious for the medium. A few are boring but for me they can usually be carried to ‘meh’ by the quality of the audio work/acting.

I’ve listened to quite a few Main Range adventures, specifically I’ve listened to all of the Charley, Hex and Evelyn arcs. I haven’t listened to many of the late main range stories (none in the very late main range) but I still have a few favourites.
First of all, here’s Robert Shearman’s entire body of work:
- The Holy Terror
- The Chimes of Midnight
- Jubilee
- Scherzo
And some other mentions I particularly love:
- LIVE 34
- Terror Firma
- Protect and Survive
- Caedroia
- The Word Lord
- A Death in the Family

Protect and Survive is excellent - especially if you’ve ever seen When the Wind Blows or (shudder) Threads.

Threads was on my mind SO much… the small but important genre of British nuclear horror
