I just remember being mostly bored
Well, weāll all have the opportunity to re-evaluate it at the end of September.
Thatās quite the review I think that I had a bit of Cyber-fatigue last I heard it, I stopped it in the middle of the third episode a couple of years ago - so I should probably give it a bump up on the neverending list of stories to listen to.
SAME - thank you!!
Iām personally on the side of having liked itā¦
I listened to this a long time ago, one of those āBig Finish stories you must listen to!!ā and I was totally bored, not sure I finished it, canāt remember a single thing from it
But to be fair to it, it was one of my first āClassic styleā Big Finishās and I still have reservations about them, hopefully by the time we get to it in the Main Range Iāll give it a second shot and like it moreā¦
I mean, like, what is wrong with people round here. Itās almost as if youāre not letting fan consensus influence your personal opinion! Thatās not how Doctor Who fans are supposed to work!
Youāll all be telling me you donāt rate The Chimes of Midnight next!
LOOK Iām gonna say it if no one else will
Robert Shearman has only one story. Itās a good story, granted, but he only has one
You are all completely cracked for not liking Spare Parts, but thatās fine I promise I wonāt hold it against you
Be fair - itās definitely a good story and a much better one than the one story Terry Nation kept writing.
Not to be That Guy, but I donāt really get the hype for Chimes of Midnight. Itās good, donāt get me wrong, but the way people talk about it I almost feel like we listened to completely different stories.
I think Doctor Who fans have a habit of over-hyping what they like in the show. I know I do it about the stories I like and yet do the ādonāt know what the fuss isā in my reaction to supposed tour de forces such as The Natural History of Fear or Jago & Litefoot.
Oh yes, I had the same reaction to Natural History. Again, good story, way overhyped.
I need to re-listen to Natural History again when Iām not laying down. I kept falling asleep and it was impossible to follow.
Delta is right though. I can take literally anything about the UNIT era and use it to explain to you why itās the greatest period in the showās history, and I really donāt like quite a lot of Tom Baker. Itās why the broadness of what the show can do is its greatest strength. Thereās a lot of room in the church.
I also need to re-listen to Chimes of Midnight as I listened to it on a long haul flight, kept falling asleep and rewinding it, I had no idea what was going on and still not sure I know. I remember it being good but didnāt get why it was amazing.
Iāll get to it in the Main Range Audio Club! I also prefer to listen in order, because I had no idea who this Charley person wasā¦
This can be read as a preview on my take when we soon reach āDalekā in the TV Clubā¦
In a move that will surprise no one, Iām with you on Dalek. Does very little for me.
Hello! New is this particular group. I donāt listen to the MR in order, i kinda go as i felt like nowadays. I begann by listening to most of the 8th Doctor stories, then jump to 6th but i stumble around all over the place.
As for my favorites, at the top my head and in no particular order: Chimes of Midnight, Jubilee, Arrangements for War, Master, Davros, The Kingmaker, Apocalypse Element, The Widowās Assassin, Neverland, Scherzo, LIVE 34. To name some.
Youāll have to jump into the Audio Club and lend your thoughts. Weāre going through the Main Range/Monthly Adventures in order with a new one every Friday. Our current subject is The Apocalypse Element. As for your list, all good choices.
Honestly probably a better approach than what Iām doing! Please feel free to share any thoughts about any story here, and echoing @DarthGallifrey, the audio club is great fun
And Iām also one to jump around. Though I am more likely to listen to story arcs in order. My first two Big Finish stories were Patient Zero and Legend of the Cybermen. Which when browsing Amazon as a new fan in 2010/2011 just looking for Doctor Who anything, a Dalek or Cyberman on the cover was good enough endorsement. Yes, I now know that both of those are the end of arcs. A very long arc in the case of Patient Zero. But I loved and didnāt look back.
