Ah, you mean from America then, like every Muppet
I am named afer my favourite transformers character Overlord
Sophie - is my name
Scarlet - refers to three of my beloved period mystery characters: Sherlock Holmes (A Study in Scarlet), Miss Scarlet(t) from Clue(do), and Eliza Scarlet from Miss Scarlet and the Duke
Oz is a nickname for one of my names (Ozgood) also can be a nickname for my other name Aston if you think about it ig, and 42 is the meaning of life and my favourite number
(guess which one of those names my parents gave me lol)
Well, thereās a bit of historyā¦
I actually have another username thatās fairly closely tied to me IRL. On fimfiction, I was in a rather silly group forum under that user id, and we had some roleplaying going on there. I wound up creating a few alts for roleplaying purposes.
One of them had this username, and was by far the most fun of them. That account sort of escaped to other groups on fimfiction, and wound up as an admin/mod for multiple groups, public facing pr for groupsā¦
Roleplaying was eventually banned on fimfiction, but that account had long shifted to being my main one, so I just mostly stopped the roleplaying part of the account. I also started using the username elsewhere, including on mastodon, which meant I ended up using it here as well.
I actually rather like having a username thatās somewhat detached from me irl, and that fact that on the internet, you can be who and whatever you want, including a unicorn, is nice. (Though it does make referencing stuff I did under this id irl strangeā¦)
Well, you all remember that at the end of The Parting of the Ways, the Ninth Doctor was taking Rose to Barcelona? Not the city Barcelona, but the planet Barcelona? And it was one of the first words the Tenth Doctor said.
I expected a lot. Such a shame that it never happened. But that anticipation from the last episode of My Doctor, Iāll always hold dear.
Mineās stupid. Back in 2010, I was an idiot and tried using my parentās email address as my ROBLOX username. I remember it saying āyou canāt use that, here are some suggestionsā, hence my nameā¦ but I have been associated with this username for 14 years as of this month!
I always try to come up with a better story, but I havenāt yet
I donāt like my username.
Basically, Iām not good at making desicions and sticking with them (hence why my avatar keeps changing), and when creating my account on here, I wanted something Who-related, and I just ended up putting Dontblink (which has nothing to do with my favourite things about Doctor Who).
So now you know.
If youād like to change it once youāve thought of another one just message me!
Me too! It was sometimes an interesting place, but it could also turn nasty. I eventually gave up going there after the first two seasons of the new series aired. There were a couple of very noisy bigots on there, plus a continual refrain of āitās the McCoy years all over again!ā. I donāt think that was quite the insult they took it to be, especially given the longevity of the show since then.
This is a far, far nicer place to be.
Couldnāt think of a username for club penguin, nicked a classmates but spelt it wrong, ended up using it for everything lol
Recently listened to The Trouble with Drax, fell in love with Drax, and so decided to make a name that has a vibe similar to that story xD
Oh, you know, just to elaborate slightly on the roleplaying involved with the origin of my username:
For anyone not familiar, one of the characters on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is Sweetie Belle. One of the big running things I had was that I was signing my name and always referring to myself as Sweetie Belle, and not acknowledging that the user id actually read SweetAI Belle.
Basically, I had two contradictory origin stories going. Either I was a rogue AI that gained sentience and believed myself to be a character from its training dataā¦ or I actually was Sweetie Belle, and a magical accident trapped me inside a computer, which leaves all sorts of fun questions to play with.
Bear in mind that this was back before all these LLMās, when an AI you could chat with was more like Eliza.
Because I write stories about different media Colin and Nicola have starred in, I wanted a username that showcased my broad interest in all of their characters, as opposed to using a nickname that was primarily Sixth Doctor-coded (although this is the bulk of what I write).
Bayban is obvious, but the āCommanderā part actually comes from Maxil. I thought it sounded nice together!
A fellow Transformers fan I see
itās always good to see more transformers fan here
I use āenochā in a lot of my usernames. āEnochā was the codename for Gentoo linux v0, and the Book of Enoch is a very hilarious tidbit of religious history, in my opinion. John Deeās enochian, etc etc.
Captain Jackā¦ Wellā¦ Take a guess as to where that came from.
I dunno, it sounds snappy
I mostly use Arch these days, but I did use Gentoo for quite a while a long time ago. Like the flexibility, donāt like the compile times.
Iām a Debian guy myself. Iād like to use Gentoo someday thoughā¦ When I have more time to devote to itā¦
Iāve got Debian installed on one laptop and a vm. I actually like trying out different distributions, and Iāve had plenty of times where Iāve just gone and tried them out on vmās to see what they are like (though the Debian one was more for somewhere to be a kinda clean test and dev environment).
I do like my main distribution to be a rolling release model, and I like how pacman works as far as package managers go, which is why I tend towards Arch.
(Iāve also built LFS a few times in vmās for fun, and once on real hardware.)
