Just out of curiosity why did you choose the username that you have?
It was part of a random name generator during the WoW beta period. So I’ve had it for nearly 20 years.
I tried to think for a few minutes of something DW related, couldn’t think of anything, and just filled in my first name lol
It’s the username I use on everything, my initials are J P, so it ended up becoming Jay Pea, and now IRL I go by Jay too, especially since realising I’m not cis
My name is Christian and we have this tradition at Swedish universities that we party in workers jumpsuit, different colours for different programs. We usually fill them with patches from different parties and other stuff. It is also tradition that you put your name on it. I got a bit lazy and only wrote Tian (the last four letters of my name). I have not worn my jumpsuit in a long time but I use that nickname from time to time.
Tian also means Ten I Swedish and that feels fitting here.
Me on a blurry image from 2009
I mean, Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas…
Nickname of one of my favorite characters and is also what I go by on a doctor who discord server and YouTube.
sircarolyn comes from this exchange in the wonderful radio sitcom called Cabin Pressure:
CAROLYN: Martin, you are many things, but believe me, you are not Sir. If anyone is Sir, I am Sir. And as Sir, I’m telling you from now on diversions are out.
My other internet handle is timeladyleo, of which the first part is obvious and Leo is an old nickname of mine that comes from my early teenage obsession with Warrior Cats lmao
I go by this on Mastodon. I chose it because I often get brain fog, which makes me a bit slow of thought. It’s one of the joys of ME/CFS.
Two of my favourite companions are Nyssa and Charley, the Trakenite and the Edwardian Adventuress, so put them together and voila.
Combining of two of my favorite fandoms: Star Wars and Doctor Who.
Tried to come up with something smart for a second since I don’t have consistent usernames anywhere, before seeing if this one was free. It’s my online name/name I’m very slowly starting to use in real life/it’s complicated for trans reasons.
I like the Claws of Axos…
My name and the date of my birthday, not very original but its my nickname in almost everything jajajaja
Mine’s a portmanteau of Dax (as in Jadzia et al. from Star Trek DS9) and Aximili (as in Aximili-Esgarrouth-Isthill from animorphs).
Okay, I have two versions, you may choose the one you want to believe:
How I wish it went:
Coldstream is a mysterious being in the Doctor Who universe, possibly someone Doom swore allegiance to during the Doom’s Day event, as suggested by the Doctor.
DOOM: Are you serious? I swore an allegiance.
DOCTOR: To whom? The Revenant? Coldstream? Oberon?
Also, “stream” is an anagram of “master”, and the Master is the Doctor’s best frenemy!
And I like mysterious beings and the Master!
How it actually went:
I’m a mister, and Coldstream is a direct translation of my surname. It’s a username I use pretty much everywhere (sometimes without the “Mr” and/or followed by “96” for my birth year).
Mine is the same as my tumblr for consistency’s sake. I’m a trans and a trekkie, so it’s a play on Enterprise and gender. I’m really proud of nabbing it on tumblr as I thought it would almost certainly be taken, but apparently not. But now I’m considering changing my name here to Ollie; where else could I claim my first name as username? That would be really cool.
Mine is just my name well, my nickname that many people call me by.
And yes, as I’m user #1 on here I could have chosen anything but I actually do have @shauny on Twitter, Instagram, Threads, it’s my Gmail account (although I don’t use Gmail anymore), and most other services where I was quick enough to grab it.
Honestly if a new social thing pops up and I am too slow to get my username I usually don’t bother with it!
I often get people offer me money for the handle because it’s so short
Let me know if you’d like to change it! I’m offering them limited to one change per person as it’s a little more complicated than just a simple flick of a switch, but I want people to be happy with their names!
I thought something short and sweet would be memorable and landed on Speechless.
That’s basically it, no other reason.
It may seem obvious but there is a story behind it.
I’m old enough to have started venturing into online fandom via an infamous place called rec.arts.drwho. Literally the first thing I posted was a defence of Delta and the Bannermen and the response was as you might predict back in the dark days of the early internet. I was rather argumentative and lacking in netiquette.
I’ve kept this as my username ever since as a reminder to be civilised, respectful and moderate when sharing my love of the best Doctor Who story ever.
I also quite like being called Delta for short.
(Except if you announce, without an ounce of shame, that you have just downvoted the story…and come from the same place as this guy…
- then you get what’s coming to you…)
