Yeah, I’m probably going to try eBay soon. I think it’s kind of sad how many perfectly functional things get abandoned in favor of smartphones.
I know what you mean. I’ve got an amazing MP3 player and the clip recently broke on one end. Went into BestBuy to pick up a new one and they didn’t have any. I don’t know what I’m going to do when this dies.
I bet if you had an old android based cellphone around that still worked that you weren’t using that had a sd card slot, you could put a big sd card in it and use it as an mp3 player.
No clip, admittedly. Maybe 3d print a clip and glue it on if everything else is working.
(I haven’t actually looked for android based mp3 players at all recently. I’m sure there are some around…)
I’ll worry about it when it dies.
Yup. There’re a lot of 'em. I have my eyes on Hiby R4, but it’s too expensive for my budget…
I just found out that almost everything I learned about Phineas Gage was wrong. Just as Little Albert, the textbooks have the exaggerated version of his story to the point that it’s plainly wrong, without bothering just to check… something. Even not Wikipedia.
It’s so frustrating. I’ve believed this story since junior high school. It’s one of the first cases and studies that got me into Psychology! I cite what happened to Gage in casual conversations with family and friends when someone brings up how teens are reckless and all that, and start rambling on the prefrontal cortex and inhibition control. I don’t think I can trust textbooks like before. Gotta check every citation before I cite anything in casual conversations.
Okay, you guys are scaring me. I’d hate to lose the use of my Zune! Using right now, and that’s a fact.
I feel like I’m getting swamped with homework ever since I started my second class. I could keep up a bit when I just had one but after I started my second I have a very hard time doing so. Either I’m getting most of the work done by the deadline or I’m not completing all of them. It would probably help to start them earlier but I don’t have the energy for that.
Got rid of a bunch of stuff cluttering my shed today (that bucket of paint is 14 years old Mr. Filer, you’ll never use it!)
Luckily someone else was putting a game of Risk: Lord of the Rings Edition on the shelves for stuff you want to give away
Almost mint condition and the only thing missing was a single die! I’ve wanted that game for so many years I’m going to play that so much with my sons
Also got a Junior Monopoly: Pixar Cars 2 Edition, also for free.
Oh and getting the Peladon badge was pretty sweet
I am currently handling a big project at work and this week has been a bit chaotic. On top of that, my youngest has been sleeping badly (she is recovering from a cold) and I am really tiered. Not the greatest of weeks but at least it is Friday today.
All my trains went perfectly today, so I have now arrived for Timelash tomorrow! I’m really excited
What didn’t make my day yesterday? At work, I’ve been assigned to lead an implementation project. While this should be a good thing, I’m a bit terrified, mainly because I don’t know what to do.
The last thing I was assigned to do at this job was to lead the Reporting Workstream on a project. No matter how many ways I tried to ask I could never get anyone to tell me what I was actually supposed to do. Same here, no doubt. I won’t be doing the implementation. I’ll be in charge of planning stuff and making sure stuff gets done, but I have little real sense of what stuff needs to get done, how long stuff will take, and so on, and I know my company well enough to know no one is going to tell me anything, they’ll just think I already know the answers even though I’m asking the questions.
So, yeah, terrified a bit. If I can find my feet, though, this could turn out to be a good thing, but I am absolutely not a leader and this leadership stuff I just don’t understand.
On the plus side, I just got that 5000 Karma badge thing, so I guess that offsets the scary work stuff.
I took a commission that is way outside my wheelhouse and required me to learn a new skill despite knowing how busy this month was gonna be and I deeply regret it. It’s kicking my ass. I shouldn’t have accepted it but I needed the money and now it’s too late to back out but I’m worried the client won’t like it and will ask for changes I just don’t have time to make. I’ve been working on it in between other commissions but the deadline to finish it is drawing closer so I have to suck it up and get it done.
tardis.guide is blocked on my school wifi now
forum.tardis.guide isnt though so small victory
It’s the opposite for me
Oh no, but it’s such an informative and educational resource!!
(Get a VPN )
Not made my day: Learned that Overdrive is completely going away mid-November. The problem, is that this makes it harder for me to listen to audiobooks. Overdrive is the precursor to Libby. Now, don’t get me wrong, Libby is fine. My perssonal problem is that I use a traditional MP3 player to listen to audiobooks. I like that I can load it up and not worry about internet connection and that when clipped to a pocket I just press a single button to pause it. Overdrive allowed me to download an MP3 file that I could then copy to my device and listen at whatever pace I wanted (I was sometimes juggling multiple audiobooks at a time). With using the app, I’d have to pull my phone out of my pocket, tap the side of the phone to wake up the screen and then pause the audiobook. I’ve tried bluetooth earbuds, but the “tap to pause/unpause” didn’t always work for me (or fast enough if I was trying to pause during a gap in the narration/dialogue) and they don’t always stay in my ear which means I’m very hesitant to wear them outside. I mean, I do have a backlog of files, but it limits anything new. I’m sure I will adapt, but it’s just annoying.
Most VPNs don’t work on the network as well
instead I’ve been using the TOR network to bypass restrictions which works quite well most of the time
I finished Babylon 5 tv series today
I started it around the same time as you but am only 4 episodes in we watch a lot of other things too I guess
