What's Made or Not Made Your Day?

Today was my initial day of training for my potential move to a different part of the business. It was supposed to be a full-day thing, but about half-hour into talking to my new mentor, he said I seem to have a grasp of the basics. He gave me the training pack and said to look and see what I don’t already know and he will explain it and basically rubber stamp the initial part. 45 minutes later I was in the pub.

I have options in what role I move to. Thankfully, my training covers all the areas and I don’t have to make a decision right now.

So as Ice Cube would say; Today was a good day.

I probably haven’t had a decent night’s sleep in weeks. If I got woke up in the middle of the night, it takes great effort and luck to come back to sleep.

My grandma’s dragging my dad to some sort of businesses meeting for over half an hour. 5 in the morning. Which makes zero sense. She’s retired for my entire life and nver had any businesses meeting in these two decades. Now she’s just had some dream and have to drag my dad into it when she wakes up, due to some kind of dementia.

Technically Saturday now, but I’ll do this for Friday.

I had a great time at Bill Bailey tonight at the Scarborough Open Air Theatre. It was so much fun; he kept calling our town ‘fish, chips, and alcohol’ because he found a cafe advertising exactly that in the town. We got a bit of rain unfortunately, but it just added to the comedy. His response when everybody shouted that it was raining was ‘It’s raining? Brilliant!’ followed by an upbeat guitar rendition of Scarborough Fair.

I continue to be impressed by how multi-talented Bill Bailey is. I don’t know how he manages to learn so many instruments, and also how to speak in various foreign languages. He sung a Turkish cover of Yellow (which is miles better than the boring Coldplay version), and a potential Eurovision song about crows eating bread in French. It must be hard enough to just learn the languages, but to sing whole songs fluently in another language is a heck of a skill.

I prefer those kind of celebrities who are famous because they are so talented, rather than because of some tacky reality show like The Only Way Is Essex.

Had my linear algebra exam, which did not go that well, so I may have to retake in October. Still, I’m finished with exams for now and it’s a great feeling to be able to relax guilt-free

As someone who has gone through having to resit exams, try not to worry too much about it. A second chance can sometimes be a good thing.

Returned from scout camp yesterday. I was really glad when we finally arrived at home. Now I just have to catch up with two weeks worth of news after sitting in a forest with almost no way to connect to the outside world. Always feels a bit like the world just stops turning around us. The world could literally end and we wouldn’t notice. Which is always nice to have a little break from everything, but is also a bit daunting when everything comes flooding in at once afterwards.

The bad news is that after a long shower and one nights rest, I already want to go back. :smiling_face_with_tear:

Found a hedgehog that was small and thin and out during the day, so (after a lot of telephoning around) we (me, my brother and two other girls from the neighborhood) brought him to a very kind veterinarian. Luckily he seemed to perk up rather quickly with some hydration and food, so she’ll take him and treat anything that pops up, before releasing him to us, so we can supplement his return to the wild a bit.

What’s wild though is that you have to pay for wild animals you rescue? Like most veterinarian around here don’t take them at all, this woman is basically the only one around here except for a big uni clinic which charges a ton, and she takes so little that it’s seriously impacted her retirement.

Little concerned about my Grandma because she’s lost a lot of teeth, and my Mum said one of them has become so damaged that it looks like a needle. My Mum’s been trying to get a dentist to take a look at them but they’ve all been refusing to take her on.

God knows how she’s able to chew properly, and surely if she’s swallowing bigger chunks of food that’s not being chewed properly, she could end up with serious medical problems?

My friend is proposing to their girlfriend. Happy for them, but mixed emotions for me.

I see so many friends from my school days who have girlfriends and my only thought is ‘How the heck do they get laid?’

I redid that three times. It is hard. Hope that you have a good vacation now.

Officially sign my job contract on Friday. I’m technically a Deputy Store Manager, but I will be going to other places to help them improve. It was an interesting salary negotiation. I don’t think they expected me to go in with comparisons from other businesses, and an expectation on what extra I would need to make it worth my while with travelling.

Nice. Where I work our team are rewriting our job description. Not been updated in years. As part of pay negotiations.

Nice. The role I will be doing is usually by someone with more experience, so the pay is a bit wonky in comparison. My role will be slightly different. Usually the person in my job is there to save a store that is doing terrible, my role will be taking on stores where they are only hitting bare minimum standards. Just going over the bread-and-butter things that can improve them.

I’ll be the only person in the company at that level. I already have a place that I will be going to on the other side of the country.

So in relation to your post, I’m basically making up my own job and getting paid for it. :innocent:

I just handed in the mini term paper that was due today. (35 minutes before the actual deadline)
I might have procrastinated a bit much and thus only started writing it today. So:
Made my day: I am finally done with it. (And finished in time)
Not made my day: Basically the only thing I did today was writing it and stressing out about it at the same time.

I procrastinate a lot. Often leaving project work tasks to the last minute. More recently I’ve realised that’s just how my brain functions. It still stresses me a bit but realising it’s just my nature helps me cope better.

I had a really good time at tennis this morning, then went to a friend’s and boardgamed the rest of the day. Oh, and the 73 Yards novelization showed up in the mail, so got that when I came home. Nice way to spend a Saturday.

Oh and I didn’t have to do any term papers, so that’s a plus too!

To circle around to my other niche fandom: D23 had its parks panel last night and to say that I’m excited is an understatement. Just in my backyard here at Disney World:
New nighttime parade
Indiana Jones and Encanto rides
Monsters Inc area with a door vault coaster
Cars area
Disney Villains area

Absolutely insane considering we’ve been stagnant here in Orlando for so long and now all of a sudden we’re actually having money thrown at us.
