What's Made or Not Made Your Day?

My mother’s aunt has been sent to hospital, and will likely be staying there a while.

And she’s got 5 newborn ginger kittens at her home. Along with 2 adult cats I think?

Gonna have to do some babysitting for furballs.

What’s made my day: I don’t really care for any sports events, like, at all. But I caught a glimpse of the Olympics opening on Weibo. Just a few pictures and GIFs. The way they present people just being really made me feel there’s still kindness in the world. Like, it might be the only instance (in a long long time) we can see PDA among queer people on telly where I am. And the logo, it’s just amazing. Elegant.

What’s not made my day: I told a close friend about this and his only remark on the whole thing is that he’s disgusted by the bit that displays three people seemingly romantically involved. (idk how to phrase this in English… It’s a kissing scene I think?) I don’t mind he finds this uncomfortable to watch (tho I don’t mind they show poly relationships on telly either), but then he proceeded to say it’s better kept under the table since the opening is aired worldwide and kids are also watching. I don’t think I minded such things as a kid. On the other hand, I read a lot of posts saying nasty things about trans people when I was a kid (8 or 9) and questioning my gender.

What really got me upset is that the same thing he said can be and been said about trans people. I always thought this friend didn’t mind me being trans and all that. Yet not a long time ago, when we were talking about trans people using bathrooms, he said “Then they would know they’re actually a man” when I said about the dilemma of a trans girl dressing feminine and deciding between woman’s and men’s room pre-everything.

Well I send him a quick Big-Five test and found that he’s got significantly lower score than me on openness to experience. Explains a lot.

Kind of got mixed feelings right now.

I tried to get the LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle And Grounds set on eBay for a much cheaper price. The seller had positive feedback, but he let me down and my item never arrived. I tried contacting him three times and he never responded. On the plus side, it have Ebay’s Money Back Guarantee, so I know I will get my money back.

The more positive aspect is that I managed to find another seller who sold me the set for just £3 more than from the other guy. So I am still going to get the set, I just need to make sure I get my money back for the first order from eBay. I can request them to intervene with the first order from the 31st July, but I’m covered by the money back guarantee anyway, so there shouldn’t be any issues.

It does annoy me when people advertise things they clearly don’t have to sell though. What happened to honesty and integrity?

Dropped my friend off at the airport yesterday so sad about that, and got back late last night to my bath towel missing, the cat litter box a mess, and the sink piled full of stinky dishes… turns out one of my housemates decided that it was a normal thing to do to borrow my towel to take with her to use while she was dogsitting instead of taking a spare from the cupboard??? I am so confused and I miss my friend and I hate living with strangers :pensive:

At least they didn’t kill my cat <3

Positives:

  • 2 days off work.
  • Good meeting with area manager yesterday. They want to talk to me about moving out of my current role and becoming a travelling helper for other stores. I may be interested. It means a jump of 2 rungs on the ladder.
  • Finally listening to more audio after 3 weeks of no DW.

Negatives:

  • It’s bloody hot here today.

Finally figured out what I was doing wrong with my sewing machine and actually made some progress on my Fifth Doctor Cosplay (not that I am very far into it anyways but still).
It took me four months to figure that out, but now at least it works again. :joy: :joy:

Got a way better grade in my analysis exam than I expected, now I just need to pass linear algebra on Friday and then I get a two and a half months long break from uni

Congrats.
And you mentioning linear algebra makes me reminiscent - such an interesting subject, but we had such an - argh!! - professor that I wasn’t really able to appreciate it until later on.
Anyways, fingers crossed for Friday!

One for yesterday: I finally came first in the Dragon Mines track on Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Adventure Mode. I’d been stuck on that one for ages, because of the really tight corners, so finally coming first was a relief.

Today: I somehow managed to obtain this Jiggy in Banzo Kazooie that was at the end of a very thin ledge in very few attempts. I was surprised at how quick I did it, because it only gave you ten seconds, the ledge is above a swamp that if you fall in, you’re eaten by a piranha, and I’m not what you’d call an expert gamer.

I was in a limestone mine today (Daugbjerg Kalkgruber), and while I am not a tall man I had to duck through a lot of the tunnels. For two passages I even had to remove my backpack to be able to crawl after my two eldest sons who were set on exploring every nook and cranny.
I. Do. Not. Enjoy. Enclosed. Spaces! :rage::cry:

Pretty cool hearing the guide talk about the “Danish Robin Hood” Jens Langkniv (Jens Longknife) who hid in the tunnels while branded an enemy of the state by the King for being a Highwayman in the 17th Century.
He was absolved of his crimes after leading a rebellion in Jutland during the 30-year war, but had taken up being a Highwayman again before the pardon came to Jutland from Copenhagen and was yet again branded an enemy of the state. Was gunned down when he got angry and tried to kill the local police officer with a thrown knife because the police officer interrupted the priest who was giving him a blessing for his sins.
I love local history such as this

I finally, finally finished my massive project for this month! Here it is, 100 horses drawn over 74 hours:

My LEGO Hogwarts Castle And Grounds set arrived. Surprisingly by Parcelforce as the seller said Royal Mail 1st Class, but glad to have found a reliable eBay seller this time.

eBay processed my refund for the first one that didn’t arrive at midnight last night too, which was impressively quick given that they wouldn’t let me escalate it further until midnight last night.

Had a notice on my door yesterday of a quarterly apartment inspection today.

Today, it was just the maintenance guys, one of which I already knew, and I just let them know the issues they would find, rather then having them actually do most of the inspection…
