That’s 48 fahrenheit… I’m sorry but that doesn’t register as cold at all to me unless its summer weather. The the highest temperature you can at all consider cold to me is 30f (-1 c) and thats still like. shorts and a short sleeve shirt weather if youre not a coward /lh
I’ve known people who wear shorts in -10 (-23), shorts weather is a state of mind
Winter here (trying to kill you) is like. first snow fall is at the end of october or the start of november, first frost is somewhere in october (or the end of september). But it doesn’t get heavy till the middle or end of november. Lots of snow from then on, at most 40 (4 c), at worst -25 (-32). Blizzards not infrequent. Plenty of ice. Last snows some time in march, maybe the first week of April. It has snowed in May or June a few times before though
Our snow is usually in late January or February.
Also it hurts your eyes. Snow is very white and January is the month where the Earth is closest to the sun. Stupid bright. Snow blindness is a real thing
Here in Germany where I am we usually get a week or two of actual snow that doesn’t melt. The winter before last we actually hit minus 10°C for several days in a row, which is the coldest I can remember a winter being. It didn’t help that my heating was broken then, it was super cold in my room. The biggest danger you get here is from clear ice, which you’ll get quite often because it often freezes during the night but any snow melts during the day. My dad’s broken a rib from falling on it before, back when I was in primary school.
My dad broke three ribs falling on ice when he had something hard in his pocket once. I was like 5?
Big huge thunderstorm yay!!!
As a fellow German, I’d like to add that Germany is large enough for winter to vary quite a bit depending on where you are in the country.
In Bavaria, for example, you can still get more than two weeks of actual snow and temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius (and not just in the Alps), even as climate change drives temperatures up. I assume—though I don’t know for sure—that it’s similar in other upland regions in Germany, like the Black Forest.
Summers have definitely gotten hotter (or, more precisely, there are now longer stretches of hot days in a row) in recent years. I look with dread at the business trips to Nuremberg I have to take next month—the heat is so much worse in a city, I feel.
Got the dentist in a few hours, couple of fillings then that’s me sorted! Just want it over and done with
That’s very true! I live in Lower Saxony, which is significantly further north [1] and also very flat. Things like mountain ranges and how far away you are from the closest ocean are going to have a huge impact. Oceans especially have a very moderating effect when you’re close to them, it won’t get really cold but neither will it get hot. And you are very right about big cities too. They always trap so much heat, it can be unbearable in the summer.
although I personally live more in the south of that region haha ↩︎
My spider troubles at the start of the week have left me entirely wiped out for the rest of it and I can’t believe it’s only Thursday… So exhausted
Well that went a lot better than last time lol. Mainly cause I knew I’d have to speak French fully this time, and I knew what to expect. I got a large filling on my wisdom tooth and it feels so weird but I’m sure I’ll get used to it!
I’ve had a pretty interesting day - I was sent away on a road trip to fix something. Kind of scary for my first time! But I survived it and got lunch on the company card and saw the sea, so I think this counts as good overall
lmao my lovely day out has been ruined by some knob pilot from jetBlue coming off the runway in Boston delayed at least two hours…
Went on a very nice (if tiring) bike ride with a friend
My little brother officially got the grades for his final exams (Abitur/A-levels I think is the equivalent?) today. Can’t really believe he’s so grown up now. Really proud of him
Wooo! Congratulations to your brother for his Abitur! We’re a very proud TARDIS Guide here!
Overwhelmed, a little anxious and VERY confused. For context: when I first moved in my downstairs neighbour was a bit of an arsehole to me. He has since apologised and all’s good there, though I’m on edge around him nonetheless (doesn’t help his dog is VERY loud and wild). Another neighbour moved into the flat next to his a month or two later, and I remember for a while they had screaming matches late at night, but thankfully those have also stopped. But a while after he stopped me on the stairwell, told me not to listen to her and some other stuff I didn’t catch.
Anyway fast forward to tonight where there’s a knock on my door. I’m a little anxious by it but answer. It’s the other neighbour. She asks to come in for a quick chat. Shit talks him. Calls him manipulative etc and a bully. Tells me not to take anything from him and if there’s issues to let her know.
And I’m just here like… I wanna keep to myself. I don’t wanna be involved in any beef between them. I just want to live in my nice rented flat quietly, play games, do my work and relax.
I’m just like ???
My wife just said “Det är spännande i Doctor Who nu”, which roughly translates to: “Exciting what happens next in Doctor Who.”
