I will admit I sometimes call crisps potato chips just because it’s funny

Doing it ironically is allowed, I love a little chaos

I’m indifferent apart from when it gets called Soda… :sob: Idk its like vacuum and all these other English variations I associate w America. Whenever I catch my husband saying an American version of a word I’ll reply in like a Texas accent.

All potato chips are chips regardless. Thin chips, fat chips, crispy chips, etc. Then crisps for crisps. Brexit means Brexit!!!

Everyone in the world should just use the original names for these items - pommes frites for those fried Belgian potatoes and whatever word was used by the people who invented soda.

That sounds better than just juice. That is something that I can accept!

I like how Scots also calls cans of juice tins of juice, and I thought more people called them tinnies but turns out that might just be me and a few of my friends cause even fellow Scots only associate “tinnies” with booze and find it funny when I do this :sob:

If I was talking to someone in the United States, I’d call these chips:

But if I was talking to someone in the UK, I’d call them crisps, and call these french fries chips:

This conversation is just reminding me of how cool dialects and etymology are; I can’t believe as a pretentious teen I used to hate the concept of dialects other than my own lol

I try to do the same.

It’s about to become Scot on Scot crime because… I’ve never heard a can of juice referred to as a tin :sob: I’ve never heard tinnies either!

That ketchup looks off to me. To thin?

Ahh, it was crisps! But I was correct given that we were in a French supermarket but it still feels wrong :sob:

What do you all call biscuits then?

I was about to say who doesn’t call biscuits biscuits then remembered America :sob:

What’s wild is that adding potato in front of chip indicates that you specifically mean crisps and not fries, and everyone here understands that, which is baffling because THEY’RE BOTH POTATO :face_exhaling: :joy:

That does look a bit thin. I’d prefer them more like this anyways…

Oh no… Maybe it’s just something of my own creation…

(or more likely, regional dialects at it again)

That looks nice. I actually dont like ketchup. Chilli mayo, Béarnaise or BBQ sauce is my preferred dip.
