What Should You Watch/Read/Listen To Next?

That could explain it :joy:. I have not listened to any 1DA and have not been following that range. But then I will vote no and say wait for reviews.

Neither have I. Stephen Noonan’s performance has never entranced me from what little I’ve heard. But I do love Steven (the companion, not the actor) and Jacqueline Raynor’s writing!

I may indeed wait for reviews.

Going to make a Big Finish account.

Any recommended purchases?

Preferably nothing too pricey…

If you like classic doctors: pick your favourite classic Doctor for some of the Main Range or their solo adventures - I liked the 3DAs a lot

if you’re new to audio and used to New Who pacing but you want to sample classic stories: start with Eight and Lucie

if you like companions: Diary of River Song and Gallifrey are both excellent

I think I can predict what @sircarolyn will say…

Well, you could start looking at the free stuff. And the short trips are cheap.

Oh it’s fine, Gallifrey is on my list of things to get round to anyway!

It’s always a good idea to keep an eye out for sales, so check if those have anything interesting to you. Generally older things are much cheaper than newer releases, and depending on your taste, they’re better too. Maybe some companion chronicles for someone you already like? Depending on your budget it might be a good idea to go for a bundle right away, that can save money in the long run.

And obviously you should start gallifrey /hj

So, in looking around a bit here are a few suggestions.

Early Main Range is quite cheap ($5.01 USD) so you could start with some of those and join in on the Audio Club discussions. Phantasmagoria (MR#2) is a very traditional Fifth Doctor/Turlough story, The Fearmonger (MR#5) is an excellent political thriller with the Seventh Doctor and Ace, and The Marian Conspiracy (MR#6) is the start of the Sixth Doctor/Evelyn arc.

The Companion Chronicles are also quite cheap ($5.01 USD), so maybe look at some of those. The Home Truths trilogy (Home Truths, The Drowned World, The Guardian of the Solar System) is quite good. As is The Suffering.

The Short Trips appear to be $3.75 USD, and there plenty to choose from there. Regeneration Impossible, I Am the Master, and Erasure are highlights for me.

Keep in mind that main range 1-50 are free on Spotify too, if you don’t feel like you need your own copy

I don’t have Spotify  but I’m fine without it.

If you have apple music, they’re on there too, but they’re available in lots of different places actually, but big finish is probably the cheapest download option

The Ratings War is the Sixth Doctor vs Beep the Meep and is just bonkers and a lot of fun. There’s even a speech from the Doctor towards the end about going to a medium where he’ll be appreciated.

I voted for the world tree since that one left the most lasting impression of the free short trips on me, it was very touching, but they’re all nice little things, imo it’s easiest to just pick one with a doctor you like! Since they’re quite short, it’s not a big commitment either way

Oh and living legend is very nice, but might be better left until you have listened to some main range Charley and Eight, it’d probably still be nice, but definitely not as fun. And that audio also has the behind the scenes for Zagreus (Main range 50), so those are obviously for after listening to that one

I voted for War Stories because it’s the only one on the list I’ve listened to, and it was a fine enough story :joy:

Also I’m sure @DarthGallifrey has asked you this before but are you a member of the library?

If you are, and you can sign up online, there are apps you can get that have free Audiobooks and Big Finish in them. There are even some from the Main Range in here.

(Your results will vary, depending on your local library)
