May I introduce you to “Dark Water”?
In a season of standouts, Sins of the Flesh manages to be a leagues better than anything else in 7V. #AlfieShawforshowrunner
Counterpoint: Broken Hearts
I’m sad to say I disagree but only because I think Broken Hearts is perfect. But Sins of the Flesh is a very very very close second for me, it’s amazing!
For me “Sins of the Flesh” was much better than “Broken Hearts”
Completely agree, Utopia is probay my favourite New Who Master ep. I’m not much of a Master fan in general tbh - they just don’t scratch my brain in the way they seem to for others rather - but the Missy being dramatic for her friend angle worked much better for me that ‘hehe I’m crrrrazyyy’ of Simm or Dhawan
My top 3 are Curiosity Shop, Broken Hearts and Sins of the Flesh they’re also the only three i like but shhhh
As a certified Huge Master Fan tm (I have heard Masterful 3 times) I agree for the most part! I think the interpretation of them as just being goofy and over the top and crazy is boring, uninspired and a misunderstanding of what makes them work in BF and classic
It’s why I vastly prefer Jacobi (on BF and his brief TV appearance) over all of the NuWho Masters. He nails that the character is suave, charming, scheming, and also more than a little pathetic
I think it’s why I like Jacobi so much too - I don’t dislike the Master by any stretch of the imagination but the scheming and devious characterisation works much better for me than the zany crazy one
While we are here in the controversial opinion topic:
I just don’t get any of this listening to Jacobi…
I still don’t see the hype for the War Master on audio, or Missy for that matter
He’s just a mean little old man what’s not to like
I think Simm is probably my least favourite incarnation, but I did like him in WEAT/TDF
But he’s so utterly predictable all the time, it just becomes, well, boring…
I thought Danish people had good taste /j
As I am clearly demonstrating here
Personally can’t agree. Like yeah he almost always wins but I view his stories as kinda like evil Columbo in that we know the end result (in Columbo, who the killer is and that Columbo will catch them; in War Master we know he will win and have done something despicable), but the fun comes from working out how things get there in spite of it. What’s the scheme? And how evil will he go? That combined with an electric performance from Jacobi is why I love these sets
Plus it’s always thrilling when we get a story where he doesn’t win. Rogue Encounters is the best War Master boxset imo
This is part of the problem. I don’t think Jacobi delivers “the goods” on audio…
He’s definitely electric on screen in Utopia though
Nowhere near my favourite set, but I do love when he doesn’t win
I guess we will have to agree to disagree here because I literally do not understand how someone can think this
