I LOVE Ranskoor Av Kolos, it’s such a cool episode, and it has one of my favorite 13 looks of all time. I can see the argument that its not the best finale, but as an episode, I loved it.

Love & Monsters is a great episode that notably ends 10 minutes earlier than most other episodes. :upside_down_face:

The Graham stuff is amazing

I’m with you all the way there. Year of the Pig is a delight – fun, witty, ridiculous, a plot that is completely random and yet absolutely tight!

I think it’s one of those stories where, if you just don’t vibe with it, you don’t like it. But (like all Matthew Sweet’s stories) I absolutely vibe with it.

(The Doctor fighting Proust… hilarious!)

I didn’t think it was the worst, but I am afraid I just didn’t like it. I think it’s a love it or hate it type of story, and personally I found the humour and sound design very grating, and all of the characters were too heightened for me so they became annoying.

But goes to show that every episode will have a lover and a harer and I’m glad you loved it!

The Doctor’s costume in the opening scene of Lucky Day is my favorite of 15’s looks so far

Agreed ! Meanwhile I really didn’t like the basic look at the end I think that’s maybe his worst so far.

I don’t mind that one either. I definitely prefer it to the “just a suit” looks from The Devil’s Chord, Lux, or the upcoming finale

Yeah, sorry - one of those would be me. I felt like I was being talked down to the whole time and the scenes of Toby describing what he wanted to eat were interminable.

It wasn’t funny and it went on and on and on and on…and on. I didn’t take to the characters and the plot was, as many of the reviews say, paper thin. I didn’t get any tension whatsoever because so much of it was just people talking.

But it’s great that you liked it (and I think there are other fans round here) and we can’t all like the same type of Doctor Who stories.

Classic who needs more omnibus edits
I own most of the collection sets - whenever there’s an option to watch a story in omnibus form i’d rather take that over 6+ parters.
Things like the war games in colour were just so much more manageable to me

I don’t think there’s an issue of the big 3 (Master/Daleks/Cybermen) being overused in NuWho, I think the real issue is that other than maybe the Master they’ve been misused and not explored properly when they have appeared. If they appeared a lot but actually got explored interestingly and properly, folks wouldn’t complain about the use as much

Even the Master has been characterised a bit unevenly in the Revival era imo - I don’t particularly enjoy the ‘wacky and cartoonishly evil’ approach most New Who Masters have had

The best NuWho Dalek story is still Dalek, because it made them feel like a threat

I think the problem with doing Cybermen on TV is, as Russell said in last week’s Unleashed, six year olds will be watching the show, and I think that it’s difficult to do the body horror of the Cybermen in a way that stays family friendly.
That said, I would like a Cybermen story that uses them in a way that isn’t just generic stompy robots.

May i introduce you to Sins of the Flesh

I’m sure you can still do the existentialism without the body horror, but though maybe even that’s too much for the kiddies

(Though haven’t kids always watched DW… :eyes:)

Yeah agreed, while I don’t love Missy as much as other folks here do she definitely finds that balance post-series 8

I think that the Master has worked in some cases more than others. Utopia serves as a perfect outing for the Master imo, and then while Missy could be a bit over the top, I enjoyed her just wanting her friend back, I think that’s how the Master should be. The Saxon Master in World Enough and Time is probably my favourite use of the Master across all their appearances.

I think the Doctor and the Master should be allowed a little kiss from time to time
