Before rewatching the entire era, I really preferred this series to s11, but after rewatch I think its the weakest of the three. Still some good stories, but overall just doesn’t hit the same. Voted Spyfall PT1 and Haunting of Villa Diodati.

Diodati is objectively really good but I just can’t properly enjoy it because it’s really distracting that it just has an 8th Doctor companion in it but that’s never addressed, effectively retconning the audios for some reason.

So I voted spyfall 1 (it’s a really fun adventure and doesn’t have the same issues as part 2) and Fugitive (I remember feeling so excited and shocked by the twist)

Nikola Teslas deserves some love tbh

Pretty good season, has some really good episodes, and some really not so good ones, but overall I liked it, Haunting of Villa Diodati clears the rest of the episodes though

Nikola Tesla narrowly misses out on the second spot for me.

I hate to be that person [1] but there’s actually not a single episode in this series I would go ā€˜yeah, loved that one!’ I’m well due a rewatch and the majority I’m pretty neutral to like on, but by and large… no, this series didn’t do it for me at all

  1. well, kind of. sometimes i enjoy being a hater… ā†©ļøŽ

I’d rather that than someone goes up with a great story like Diodati and gets told, ā€œno, you can’t do that because Big Finish uses that characterā€

Each to their own

In response to the thumbs down, you wouldn’t like it if a Big Finish writer was denied to put up a story because it contradicts the show either right? It’s the same thing. It’s a time travel show, contradictions are inevitable, chalk it up to the timeline changing all the time in Doctor Who.

But… big finish does have to stick to the show’s continuity?? Their stories are all limited by it.

I mean, they have to run everything past the TV show to get approval to make sure it doesnt overstep any continuity etc, and they work within the limit. They don’t go ā€œOh Rose died hereā€ they stick to the continuity.

I thumbed down because I don’t like repeatedly being told the same things from you every time I mention my own BF views.

It’s just a difference of opinion regarding the relation between the show and the expanded universe. Something we’re just clearly polar opposites about. It’s a discussion forum, I’ll voice my disagreements with opinions for the sake of discussion, It’s not a personal attack or anything. I don’t care for getting eyed or thumbs downed by you every time the topic comes up.

I’d rather every time I mention something I didn’t have you nipping away at me almost instantly. Yes its a discussion forum, and we all have our own opinions but it doesn’t come across nicely.

I’ve never said anything in a way other than accurate to my thoughts, and never in a rude manner. It’s mainly just coincidence that the opinions I’m disagreeing with happen to be yours. I can stop responding to you when it comes to this kind of topic then, so we don’t have these misunderstandings in future.

Can we just take a moment to breath and remember what’s great about TARDIS Guide.

ā€œThe Haunting of Villa Diodatiā€ is one of the very best from the Whittaker years, and ā€œSpyfall part 1ā€ hits all the right James Bond-y notes for me.
So that’s where my votes go :+1:

Overall I think this series is one of the most visually stunning in the shows history :slightly_smiling_face:

The Haunting of Villa Diodati is also a standout for me. Definitely one of the best episodes in Thirteen’s run, quite well written. My other pick is more out of personal preference but I like Can You Hear Me? I really appreciate it as a look at Yaz, Ryan, and Graham’s inner lives that we didn’t get to see all that much. And I think the short animated mythology sequence is pretty neat. I will admit Thirteen does fumble a bit at the end with Graham.

I can’t pick just 2, so here’s a list of my favourites (and why I love them):

Spyfall (both parts): Really fun, large-scale, and that reveal gets me every time.

Fugitive of the Judoon: It just works so well.

Can You Hear Me: I need more experimental stories like this!

Haunting of Villa Diodati: Deliciously atmospheric and creepy.

The Timeless Children: Phenomenal.
