YESSS!!! i love 90’s probe so much
The Power of Three
I’ve always felt that this one is hugely underrated. The conceit of the ‘slow invasion’ is clever and really rather creepy (it’s amazing how much presence those little black cubes have - even when they’re not doing anything). It’s also got some lovely humour (once again, Brian is a highlight). OK, so it does feel kind of unfinished and the ending is so cursory, but:
a) as I’ve said before, endings have ever been a weak spot in Doctor Who and one I’m largely forgiving of provided I’ve enjoyed the ride; and
b) the difficulties of working with Steven Berkoff have been discussed at length.
All in all, I love this episode and think it deserves wider recognition. Great stuff. An uncut diamond.
I thought the ending was weak but overall really enjoyed it. I’d like more from Wilkinson. I went to see her play The Sweet Science of Bruising, about Victorian female boxers. It was great.
The who am I scene is even more dramatic in my opinion “WHO. AM. I???”
That’s the scene I meant When he yells that with his arms out, and all the mirrors are there, with the disused hospital room…it’s great
Which X-Files episode?
Ohhh right sorry
I watched two—Unruhe and The Field Where I Died from S4…The end of The Field Where I Died was way darker than anything I was expecting to see on the X-Files
I’m kinda afraid of developing a crush on him , especially with the audios
Ah, yes, that one is pretty dark. Here I was thinking it was ‘Home’ from S4 - close.
And here I thought the X-Files was just going to be about aliens and conspiracies…but no, there’s burying babies alive and mass suicide
That is…certainly something
Steven’s head
P.R.O.B.E. Case File: Sherwood Sorceress
Welp, I’m gonna have to wave goodbye to the ‘I have seen things you wouldn’t believe’ badge, because if the other case files are anywhere near this flat, ain’t no way I’m spending that much to see the rest of them.
Started Class today (I still have a few stories to go if I want the Pride Month badge so I thought this is as good an opportunity as anything). The first episode is good I’d say. Very nice to see the Twelfth Doctor again especially. It’s bloodier than I expected
I was watching but took a break in “Co-Owner of a Lonely Heart” Will continue after a while
I absolutely love Fugitive Of The Judoon, that’s maybe my favorite S12 story (Villa Diodati is very close), this is the biggest of big swings and I just think it’s absolutely brills (co-written by Demons Of The Punjab’s Vinay Patel, two great ones!). Of course you must begin with Jo Martin, and my review of her performance, as ever, is “give us much more Jo Martin at your earliest convenience, please.” The subtle ways that her current life mirrors The Doctor’s (running away from the beautiful but boring lighthouse to the bustling but interesting city), the persistence of blue in her home and on her watch hands, the reveal, the face-off later. And her console room is sick AF, one of the coolest designs of the new era, an intentionally 60s throwback, but with lovely lovely lighting. I really like the Judoon in this, they look fantastic and feel as chaotically violent but officious as they should. The bit at the end from the fam is great, and it’s the message of this whole season, even after the Timeless Children, The Doctor is who they are in the now, in the present moment. Their past is interesting, and it clearly tortures them to not know, but it’s not as important as the choices they make in the present, every day. Oh yeah and Captain Jack’s in it for some reason haha (somebody should be telling you to beware the bad dye job, pal, it’s ink cartridge black).
I can still remember how cool this felt when it first aired, I’ve watched this a few more times on its own since, this is the Target novel I really want. A full fave, 4.5/5
More Class with The Coach with the Dragon Tattoo. Tbh my only thought here is ‘dear god, are we traumatizing Ram’. Seriously, give that guy a break this is too much and we’re only two episodes in
The way the coach doesn’t even care about his trauma
