It’s a defining story not just for 3 but for The Doctor as a character! It really gets down to the nitty gritty of how he sees alien life forms, if they’re intelligent there must be a way to reason with them and make peace. That is so centrally crucial to the show, and in a massively positive way. I have never loved what it requires The Brig to do in order for that story beat to land, I believe his character should be capable of understanding that nuance in the hands of the right writer/producer. So the Brig hardens a little bit here and The Doctor opens up.

Watching Time Heist, wonderful episode, everyone loves a good heist story, especially with our dynamic duo! This episode showcases how while the 12th Doctor may not be the nicest Doctor, he is just as kind as the others, incredibly pragmatic, slightly manipulative, extremely weird. This just highlights the vital importance of having a good companion, while the Doctor is difficult and comes off as callous, Clara is there to balance him out, offering an empathetic face who’s easier to get along with.
I really like how this episode touches on the Doctor’s self loathing, his constant mention of how he hates the Architect, despite clearly knowing it’s him. The Doctor knows he’s manipulative, but it’s effective, so he keeps doing it. It lends credibility to Danny Pink’s criticism that the Doctor is an officer, this Doctor gives orders and commands others to follow his lead, even if people hate him for it. I think the more I watch S8, the more I grow to appreciate this difficult, unapproachable Doctor, I still prefer his S9+ characterisation, but I’ve grown to love this Doctor who wants what’s best but just doesn’t have the social skills to convince people nicely.

Nikola Tesla’s night of terror was fantastic! I really like how involved Tesla and his inventions were in the plot unlike Ada Lovelace and Noor Inayat Khan in Spyfall Part 2.

Before I saw the story, I used to call it Mandra - gore - a. I also used to call it The Caves of Andron-zan-eye. Oh and Ree-bos was Ry-bos (but I think that’s forgiveable).

I used to think Traken was pronounced like Kraken, with a short ‘a’. I thought this for so long that the actual way it’s said sounds weird to me now

It’s the end… but the moment has been prepared for. Finally watched Logopolis. What a sendoff for 4. The actual substance of the plot being somewhat difficult to decipher is more than made up for the sheer sheer doom-laden atmosphere of the episode. You can really feel how world-weary 4 (and honestly, by extension? Baker himself) has become at this point.
The Ainley Master is never again this sinister or conniving, appearing only as a disembodied laugh for basically the first half of the story. The score was PHENOMENAL, and the Watcher, even if I already knew what it was, gave me chills every time he showed up. The formal addition of the s19 crew to the TARDIS really seals this story as the end of one era and the beginning of another one.
8.5/10. Goodbye 4, you were a bloody legend. I now only have half of Hartnell and Troughton’s stories left and that’s classic who finished. Very surreal feeling.
