Honestly, I would like a companion that would fight the Doctor when they started acting like that. The Doctor attacking his companion and then finding himself lying sprawled on the floor of the TARDIS sounds about right to me…

Not Doctor Who, but I’m watching Coincident’s single-segment UV-Max (Ultra-Violence Difficulty, all kills and secrets, though this map doesn’t have secrets) run of the Okuplok Slaughter Map (Classic Doom). The first to ever beat it UV-Max without saves.

I don’t like it anyway. Even if he is post-regeneration, it is too far out of character for the Doctor. And it is not a good look for the show.

Got sold on Hand on Fear again, mostly by just how much stronger it became when it essentially became a four hander (and then 3 hander by end of part 3). Genuinely believe that this is one of Baker’s best performances, where he nails the alienness and the gravitas while also switching to perfect gentleness and affection whenever he’s with Sarah Jane. He also has such great contempt for Eldrad until they reach the planet, where he starts to have a little bit more trust and like … Until he learns Eldrad was lying any way. And the contempt and menace returns.

And Sladen!! As often as Sarah Jane gets possessed or hypnotised, this is easily the best interpretation of it imo. And she’s so confident and fun here. These two really are my TARDIS Team (along with 10/Donna) - they genuinely just feel like real best friends travelling the universe together.

I still think the script is only okay overall and I didn’t super vibe with most of it but it’s a fun story and a good time!

Wait. I feel like I’ve forgotten something to talk about. Hmmm…

Oh! One of the best companion exits of all time! Hard to choose between this and Jo’s really; both are so beautiful and emotional, and played and written to perfection. I’m so glad Sladen and Baker wrote this, as you can see their chemistry and understanding of the characters shine through the dialogue. What a pitch perfect ending to an otherwise pretty good story.

4/5, would be 3.5/5 but the performances and the ending are just too damned good to dock it that much

New to this thread (as I am to pretty much all of them, haha), so I went back a day to catch up. Right now I’m listening to Marco Polo, and I still need to watch Lux, but in the realm of non-Who shows, I just finished Daredevil: Born Again, and I’ve started A.P. Bio.

After watching The Doctor’s Wife, I watched the four Night minisodes. I thought I’d watched them all before but now I’m not 100% - I did increase my ratings though. They’re rather charming.

As is clear in the Swedish law: “Du skall icke vara romantisk med en danskjävel.”

My source to this fact is unimportant, this is definitely the truth and no I won’t elaborate.

That is probably a very good piece of life advice

Anyway, I’m watching one of the more entertaining Chibnall era episodes in The Tsuranga Conundrum, followed by one of the more solid ones, in Demons of the Punjab.

So, today I went and watched The Happiness Patrol. Man, I thought Kinda was weird… this thing right here is freaking weird. I was actually a bit worried, because I’ve seen good ratings for it so when Part 1 didn’t really pull me in, I was thinking “this is what people love so much?” But then the rest of the story happened and it was lovely.

McCoy is so good, the setting is nice and creepy, the villains are really good and fun, and the overall plot is entertaining and well-crafted. Watching 7 cause this whole tyrannical regime to crumble just through his words and his mind is so satisfying. I wonder if the video game “We Happy Few” was inspired by this story because, while I’ve not played it, the concept is basically the same. Anyway, the two big speeches here (7 talking down the sniper and then his confrontation with Helen A. at the end) are f##king fantastic, especially the first one. That is chessmaster 7 at his best. The ending being Helen A. finally crumbling down alongside her empire is so well-done. She doesn’t need to be blown up in a spacecraft or shot by a rebellious soldier or anything like that, it’s just a final loss. There’s even the tiniest sympathy for her when she finally gets to cry.

Which brings me to the messaging, which isn’t really subtle, but I don’t really care because it works well. I pick up on implied depression in both Helen A. and Susan Q. with there being some clear commentary on suppressing emotions. Then there’s the obvious anti-fascist and anti-authoritarian message that ties into it.

There are still some negatives. The side cast gets a little left behind, mainly Earl and Susan. They get good moments but are a little one-dimensional. I also think the Kandy Man doesn’t really work. I just found him ridiculous and not threatening at all. There’s also a bit too much exposition at times, mainly in part 1 when 7 and Ace are talking to the guy by the slot machine where he basically just sums up the society of Terra Alpha. The Pipe People also seemed a little unnecessary to the story.

Overall though, this is the third McCoy serial I have watched and the third one that gets very high marks. 9/10. The only one I have left out of the ones I own is Dragonfire.

It’s more than solid - it’s a 5/5 bonafide classic in my opinion.

I’ve been reflecting a bit after watching this one…

I’m wondering if I’m coloured by knowing what we now know about Gaiman. I just don’t think I enjoyed it as much as I did first time round (and this is probably the first time I’ve watched it since broadcast). The production is gorgeous, especially the junkyard and the cast are great but I was far more uncomfortable with all the ‘sexy’ TARDIS stuff than before and Amy and Rory being shunted off into the TARDIS to run around the corridors wasn’t particularly interesting. There seemed to be a lot of talking rather than action. I also just got frustrated by how easily they kept getting separated. The first time, fair enough, but the second time I was just rolling my eyes that Amy was running so far ahead of Rory knowing what had literally just happened. It just made no sense they wouldn’t be holding hands or staying right next to each other to stop the doors closing between them again.

I just don’t know if my attitude towards it was coloured or whether it has genuinely lost a bit of its sheen. (aha, pun not intended!)
