The too long bits would be the Dennis Spooner half. I find the Nation half, barring Feast of Steven to be tense, exciting, and moves along just fine. Nation can do a good adventure.

I’m really not a fan of Legend of the Sea Devils. It’s the only story out of the whole Jodie/Chibnall era that I really don’t enjoy…

…except for those character moments between Yaz and the Doctor (really excited for the Big Finish releases from July) and the lovely phone call between Dan and Diane at the end. Those bits I love. I know. I’m just a big softy.

Indeed. It’s often the case that Nation is criticised for lazy writing and turning in the same scripts (with tweaks) again and again. Whilst there’s some truth to these claims (particularly the latter), he knew how to write a good yarn and, when his imagination was sparked, could really write some sensational stuff! I absolutely agree that Nation’s scripts for DMP are excellent; tense, exciting and tautly written. Spooner keeps it going, but his strengths are very different and it’s hardly surprising that episodes like “Volcano” don’t quite work. They’re very much at odds with the core story.

Exactly. The Yaz and 13 bits and the Dan and Diane bit are nice moments. Unfortunately I’d say the main story is exactly at the level people say it is, and a very disappointing return of something from the Classic series.

Probably not…

But I do kind of like the look of those short story anthologies and the comics :slightly_smiling_face:

I watched Fury from the Deep tonight. It is a great story, and the animation might be the best one of all of them. It feels like an old cartoon in the best way possible. Also, it’s a good exit for Victoria; it is unusual for the time with an exit that they had built up for.

It is one of the weaker episodes of S4 in my opinion. I really quite liked it the first time around but when I rewatched it last week I didn’t like it as much.

Honestly though, I don’t think it’s the weakest of them all, as I see many call it. I’d actually give that spot to Partners in Crime or The Unicorn and the Wasp.

For the record though, I don’t think S4 has a single bad episode so please don’t get mad at me.

I decided to take a break from my Classic watch and skip ahead to Spearhead from Space, I didn’t know how much I missed colour until I went from Dalek Master Plan right to season 7

As for my Doctors Daughter review,I quite enjoyed it,Jenny is so good in it and how Donna is morr cleverer than 10 in it is amazing. Also the whole Man Who never Would speech is sick, need more of that in new era.

That was fantastic, I can see the increased production budget was put to good use. The third Doctor certainly is a sly one, immediately trying to run off in the TARDIS, and trying to convince the Brig to let him keep the stolen car :joy:. I can see why people suggest starting with the third Doctor, though I will go back and finish the first and second Doctors eventually.

Yeah, it is a fantastic season. I keep changing my mind between S4 and S5 on which is my favourite.

Just logged a repeat of “The Crimson 'orror”

It’s a story that is just the very definition of middling to me. 2,5/5 :star: It never hits any high notes for me during those 45 minutes (well except referencing Tegan  )
And then it leads straight into “Nightmare in Silver”… :eyes:
At least I am getting close to the "…of the Doctor"s :slightly_smiling_face:

Did “Nightmare in Silver” just now as well.

It’s such a mixed bag.
There’s some excellent world-building going on in regards to the Cyberwars, the Emperium, the Punishment Platoon and the like. Warwick Davis is fantastic!

But then there’s everything about the Cybermen added here that is plain terrible, like the speedster ability.

The elephant in the room for me is the acting. The Maitland kids cannot act in the slightest. And Matt Smith is just terrible throughout - every scene he has where he shares his body with the Cyberplanner is Morbius-level bad.
It’s a 1,5/5 :star: because I’m feeling generous…

I get second-hand embarrassment from watching that “They’re HEEEEERE!!!” from Matt Smith…

We all like different things, and that is a good thing. I find Season 4 and Season 5 to be the peak of modern Who. I really like 10 and Donna, and there are a lot of great episodes.
