Sitting here on the couch watching “The Pandorica Opens”.
My word, that pre-title sequence is fantastic

Watching Meglos. I’m fascinated by the idea of a serial not introducing the Doctor to the main plot for the first quarter of the story! Honestly, Season 18 has to be one of my favourites of Classic Who, I’ve enjoyed every serial I’ve watched of it so far.

There are times I think I like Chinn more than Yates!

Oh come on now. Yates is ok for most of his run. Chinn’s just a, well, something rather rude for polite conversation.

The Awakening. A great two-parter.

That’s season 22 in a nutshell! Revelation of the Daleks takes a full half
of the story…

Season 18 is very underrated imo.

I absolutely love Season 18. The tone of the series is just so good, it’s easily one of my top Four series. Also it has vampires. What more could you want?

I just finished The War Machines and absolutely loved it! This might be my favorite First Doctor story. It’s so much fun, with a fantastic setting, memorable characters, and a genuinely menacing enemy. Ben and Polly are great companions, and their introduction here is fantastic—they instantly feel like a natural part of the TARDIS crew.

The only downside is Dodo’s farewell. It feels a bit lackluster, but honestly, I don’t feel like the show loses much without her. She was the least interesting of the First Doctor’s companions, so her departure doesn’t have the emotional weight it could’ve had. Overall, though, The War Machines is a thrilling and satisfying story!

It is a great serial, and sort of a UNIT story before UNIT or Lethbridge-Stewart. (Though Nicholas Courtney had been on the show just the previous year!)

Unfortunately I don’t agree. It’s a real drawback of watching that era for me.

I love The War Machines. I keep meaning to listen to the Torchwood One sequel.

When you do, please let me know if it is good.

I really like Torchwood One: Machines (and not just for Blind Summit, for Ianto backstory reasons), it’s great fun and Yvonne is fantastic (read: kind of a terrible person) in it. But I haven’t watched The War Machines, so I have no idea how it holds up in comparison.

Here is the fan edit that fixes Dodo’s exit from the show :+1::wink:

Lol. That is still a better ending then she got :joy:

Well, BF just finished Dodo’s exit with the recent The Living Darkness 1DA…

Aside from what he does in Dinosaurs, what could you possibly hate so much about Mike Yates? I’d say he’s relatively neutral most of the time.

Franklin’s performance to be honest. I know he’s been a decent ambassador for the show and is well liked by a lot of fans but it makes Yates a massive irritant for me.

Chinn is obviously a less likeable character but the writing and performance has the desired effect. I like to hate Chinn. But with Yates, I just cannot get on board with him ever. His actions in Dinosaurs therefore don’t really come as a surprise and so don’t have the desired effect. And even then I still don’t think Franklin pulls it off particularly well.

Just one of those differences in tastes we all have. If Yates were a one-off character I’d find him irritating for that one story, and possibly neutral like you say. But as a UNIT regular it compounds and compounds to the point where I - very honestly and sincerely - can’t stand him.

Huh. Never thought Franklin was particularly bad in the role. Maybe not as strong as some. Classic Doctor Who not really known for exceptionally good acting, and Franklin seems about typical.

I’m not a huge fan of Yates either, but I’m also not familiar with this take on Franklin’s acting. I mean, I’ve never seen him as a particularly great actor, per se, but perfectly fine for the role.
