You sound like the fans who refuse to acknowledge Jodie as a legitimate Doctor just because they don’t like her. If it’s on the show, it’s official

It’s called abbreviating! Quite a handy technique.

For example, you could’ve written your question as: “What’s that?” instead.

Try it sometime!

There is a priest coming out of the church to pick Ruby up, right?

Well yes, but would anyone actually think: Mysterious cloaked lady who just left her child on a doorstep is pointing at a road sign - clearly she is naming her infant daughter the name on said sign?

I’m not going to defend this shit lol
Her wearing a cloak, because “the memory shrouds her” and the dramatic pointing are both just RTD doing drama to have fans speculating, and I hate it.

Who just sees her pointing, knows immediately she wants the kid named after the road and doesn’t bother to, you know, chase after her and find out what the hell is going on with her abandoning a baby on his doorstep…

Pretty sure the priest only came out after Ruby’s mum had left already.

I guess the only way that can kind of work is when you read it in a way where the memory is just completely different from reality.

She doesn’t wear a cloak in reality.
She points less dramaticaly.
There are people there who she shouts to while pointing at the sign.

The only reason we don’t see it that way is because time is kind of f’d at that specific point. Which is why even Sutekh, God of Death is intrigued by it.

That’s a lot of heavy lifting on the part of the audience!

Yes, which is why this isn’t me defending it.
It’s making up headcanon so that I don’t hate this episode.
I want to love everything about this show. Sometimes it’s just hardnr that others.

I also shouldn’t have to scramble for an explanation to why the fugitive Doctor’s TARDIS looks like a policebox.
I still did, because I want to like her and the whole timeless child arc.

God Complex this afternoon. Solid 4.5/5

I always loved The Eleventh Hour and it shocked me the first time I heard someone saying it’s kinda creepy that an adult man’s entering a little girl’s house in the middle of the night. I get why people feel that but for me, the story (and the whole setting, really) feels like a cozy bedtime story. Now I know why after rewatching God Complex. It’s like Father Christmas entering children’s bedrooms. The Doctor is old. They call every companion ‘my young friend here’. They never came across (to me) as in that sort of threatening.

I have never heard that complaint. I like you don’t see that at all.

Exactly, it is no creepier than Santa because the point of s5 is fairytale and the Doctor as that fairytale creature, and the whole point of the Moffat era as a whole is taking that whole fantastical image of the Doctor and breaking it right down because at the end of the day he isn’t a god. He’s just a traveller and a guy who can’t help but get involved.

Amy very much always saw the Doctor as that myth, as the great saviour - much the same as Ace - which is why The God Complex is such a good episode because it is all about that misplaced faith. Amy and Ace are actually very similar in a lot of ways.

Man I love Matt Smith era!!!

Anyone making that claim must be taking the piss no-one would seriously think that (or so I choose to believe )

Honestly, that TARDIS being a police box thing isn’t that much of a stretch. It landed on Earth in England, a police box is an Earth English object. She was on the run, so probably didn’t have time to confirm that it was a good match for the time period (even though it’s not that far off), not to mention the TARDIS is not known for being 100 percent reliable or accurate all the time. I don’t get why people get hung up on it being a police box.

Yeah it didn’t bother me much either, I just assumed it was the same TARDIS the Doctor then stole as the First (being drawn to it) and it took on the appearance of its future self because of the relative proximity.

Now admittedly that is me doing some work myself to explain it but in this instance I didn’t really resent having to.

However, it’s seemingly a police box in her bf series which they’re teasing an explanation for and at the risk of sounding smug I doubt I’ll find their explanation more satisfying. But we’ll see (hear)…

Lol. In Big Finish where it’s easiest to have a functioning chameleon circuit because you don’t have to buy or build a new prop.
