It turns really good in the last stretch!
That’s because he isn’t.
The Feast of Steven is my most wanted episode to be returned. I think it really, really needs the visuals and would just be a huge amount of fun. Audio only and there’s a lot of random noise, especially in the Hollywood bit.
Yeah, that is one that is high on my list as well even if I am generally hoping for more second doctor to show up.
Too bad it’s probably the one that is the least likely to turn up, because it was never sold overseas and the original tapes were wiped shortly after transmission, with no copies known to exist.
I actually had to rewind a bit because I was falling asleep, and was pretty tired during the last two episodes, so headed to bed immediately afterwards. Thought I started it early enough in the evening, but I guess not.
Overall thoughts are that Chen, the council, the monk, and the daleks were great, and I’m never going to argue with having Nicholas Courtney and Jean Marsh in my episodes. It was too long, though, and they started going too much in the route of the Chase, and having too much “now they are on this planet, now this, now they are in the middle of a movie being filmed”. They could have cut large chunks out of several episodes.
And there were definitely some episodes that were light on dialogue and had the video missing, which is not a good combination.
Overall good, though.
UNIT job interview, “Do you know Doctor Who? Yes? Welcome to UNIT.”
In retrospect, you really have to wonder why they didn’t offer Clive a job at some point…
Man with chips should be working in HR.
To be fair, at that point UNIT was a lot more militaristic, it’s only the 2010s with Kate becoming leader that they started to go down their current route (and even then, not until recently they started hiring like that, I just can’t imagine someone like Morris being in Zygon Invasion/Inversion UNIT
Well, I mean, Osgood seems like she was hired on the basis of being a Doctor Who fan…
Pre-Zygon Invasion/Inversion I could see that, but even then, there’s a lot more to her than meets the eye
Granted it’s not the episode, but a couple of quotes from the Day of the Doctor Novelisation
Petronella Osgood. I remembered a note on her file, and had to suppress a smile: Petronella has a talent for being under your feet before you even know she’s in the room. She was also, in the absence of the Doctor, UNIT’s number one tactical asset.
It was tricky, sometimes, downloading all those memories through one little psychic link. Sometimes the donor mind could overwhelm you, especially if strong emotions were involved. Also, this mind was huge, I realised. Quite the largest mind I’d ever ingested. There were millions of random thoughts, bounding around all over the place, like a stampede of cartoon ponies. It was as much as I could do not to duck.
‘We’d probably better kill Osgood super quickly,’ I said. ‘She’s awfully, awfully clever, and there’s hardly any room for me in here. Also, she took my inhaler.’
There’s probably better ones, but I was just skimming the one chapter
I loved the Osgood stuff in that novelisation!
Well, I loved all the stuff in that novelisation, but…
Just watched the last two parts of Mawdryn Undead.
I enjoyed it quite a bit more this time around, Nicholas Courtney works really well with the Fifth Doctor (well he worked well with all Doctors really )
Nyssa has just evolved so much since The Keeper of Traken. (Still can’t see why people would ship her and Tegan though - I can’t really see anything even approaching an emotional connection besides friendship)
But what I am most surprised at is just how much I liked Turlough. I’ve never really warmed to the character on TV, but there’s something there that I’ve just not noticed before.
Well, I’ve watched The Massacre. Good story, overall. Rather Doctor-lite.
I did like his fight with Steven, and his monologue at the end, after Steven left. I do remember that at one point, Anne Chaplet was going to be the next companion…
Re: Daleks Master Plan. It’s so good until Dennis Spooner shows up. I can forgive the similarities to The Chase because TDMP does it better, but that and shoehorning the Monk into it holds it back from being an all-time classic. Still like it a lot though.
Watching Terminus part 2 at the moment.
The costuming choice for Nyssa in this one
Did you get to Sarah Sutton’s “parting gift” for some of the fans?
Not yet
Just about halfway through part two.
To my knowledge it was something Sutton wanted to do for the fans, but it does come across as rather random in the episode. Actually the bluish grey skirt outfit Nyssa has in Mawdryn/Terminus is probably my favorite of her looks.
