I think this is what you were trying to say!

It was not that bad.

Just finished “Strange England”.
It was a bit strange. I was stuck halfway through for several weeks.

A very, very long setup for the showdown/conclusion that all happened in the last 30 pages - which was a good ending. But it did feel like it dragged a bit on at times.

The big insect stuck in a small girls throat was horrid, I think that’s the most gruesome the VNAs has gotten for me so far

A 3,5/5 :star: for this one.

I should finish “The Wonderful Doctor of Oz” next as well, I seem to be stuck in that one as well (about 2/3 through)

I’m on a comic roll, so I’ll probably continue reading the Titan collections, with the 10th Doctor Year 3 coming up next.

And I’ll also continue reading Dungeon Crawler Carl with book four.

Having finished Rose, I am preparing to start The Christmas Invasion.

I’m a bit nervous…

(Take a look at the author if you can’t work out why)

Are you afraid it won’t live up to The Turning of the Tide?

I’ve been reading DWM’s Adventures in Space bookazine. Some fun articles so far, especially the one about the Dalek saucer from the movie version of Dalek Invasion Earth: 2150 AD.

What did you think of Rose?

It couldn’t have been better than The Turning of the Tide, at least!

I’m really not sure.

I did like Russell’s writing, I enjoyed some of the additions to the story, but something about the novel did feel a bit wrong.

I thought that it was good. It was more brutal than the episode, which fits well in a novel. As you said, the additions were great. I just liked it

Definitely this.

Decapitation galore!

Finished the last couple of chapters of “The Wonderful Doctor of Oz”.

I do not get why this book has such a high rating (4,11/5 :star: ). I gave it a 2/5 :star:

I think the characterisations of both the 13th Doctor, Yaz, Ryan, Graham and Missy was really off and nowhere near their portrayals on TV.

And Missy is on the cover, what is the point of not having her in the book until about 80% through and then only have her be there for 30 pages? I got a bit excited when it was teased that it might be the Rani, so it was really a disappointment when it turned out to actually be Missy

Theodore (Dorothy) was a bit of a dull stand in for a companion, and apart from their role in the conclusion felt a bit wasted.

I had hoped this mashup of Oz and Doctor Who would have a bit more of a magical adventure feel, but in the end I found the book to be rather dull.
Bit of a waste of The Land of Fiction really.

I love Oz so I’m hoping my usual trend of agreeing with you doesn’t carry through on this one when I get around to reading it.

I will say with the stats as they are then I think my take on it is an outlier here :slightly_smiling_face:

Yeah, but we always tend to agree on things…

Been working my way through the book I started on the early Church, read the latest Darth Vader collection from Marvel that wraps up the current Vader series last night, been reading old issues of DWM that I found online, been slowly working my way through the DC Rebirth Green Arrow series. Just lots of random stuff.

Still working on “The War of the Daleks” from the 8th DW series.

Loving it and it seems to be a good “crash course on Daleks” for me as this is my first book where I have encountered them at this level.

Reminder: MEGA DW Newbie here, focusing primarily on books only

Glad you’re enjoying it @JohnnyRockets! I found it to be a fun action novel. I could envision it as what Doctor Who might’ve done for a big budget action movie. The problem it has among fans is that it majorly retcons the Seventh Doctor TV story “Remembrance of the Daleks”, as well as links nearly every TV Dalek story (definitely every TV Dalek story from 1978 onwards) into one big scheme to prevent the destruction of Skaro. I understand from things I’ve read that John Peel didn’t like that development and, according to Peel, neither did Terry Nation (even though Nation could’ve vetoed it before it was even filmed). So, collectively the fandom has rather disliked this novel for retconning one of the best TV Dalek stories. Feel free to read my review on the Guide once you’ve finished.
