What are you currently reading?

Yeah, I was laughing the whole time listening to it because it sounded like 12 but with 15’s personality

Synthespians™. I’m liking it so far. The plot seems a lot less dry and hard sci-fi-oriented than the author’s other Six PDA, The Quantum Archangel, which is a thumbs-up in my book.

I can’t read the new NSAs for five months (sadly they don’t release in the US until October), but I might pre-order them if they look interesting. I’d love to hear your thoughts on them when they come out.

Read the Shore ditch incident, it’s got a really nice way of telling the events of Remembrance of the Daleks. I’m always a fan of stories that use things such as reports and letters to tell a story.

I sat down and read the stories in “The Essential Book of K9”. That was not good…
But it gave us the original K-9’s origin story.

Might have to try out some Mega-bytes as well :k9:

I think that megabytes is a bit better. But yeah it is not that good.

Well this describes how and why Professor Marinus created K-9…
I’d call that an origin story, wouldn’t you?

Fine! I was trying to find a reason not to read it!

In all seriousness, that’s a really cool cover, interesting synopsis, and how can you not love anything with Jo in it?

When I originally finished it I made a post in the EDA thread where I said “Genocide is so good!” or something along those lines.

Ooh, great choice! I love Discworld (I started reading the series about four or five years ago, and the only two I haven’t read are I Shall Wear Midnight and The Shepherd’s Crown), and Mort is probably one of the best books in the series.

I agree with the recommendations from @TrakeniteAdventuress and @InterstellarCas, but I also want to recommend the City Watch subseries - Guards! Guards! and Night Watch are two of my favourite books of all time (I’ve actually reread the former multiple times, which is very rare for me) and Sam Vimes is one of my favourite characters in all of fiction. Much like the wider Discworld series, the City Watch novels start as overt parody, but by the end they actually get pretty serious and reflect a lot of real-world issues.

I own the first Discworld book, but I haven’t read it.

I started with the first book, and I did enjoy it, but I don’t think it’s the best starting point for new readers these days. It’s quite dated, with a lot of parodying of 70s/80s fantasy conventions specifically, and it also doesn’t really have much of a plot. Absolutely give it a try, but I would suggest starting with Mort, Guards! Guards! or one of the other books first, because you’ll likely have a better time IMO

There are tons of Discworld reading guides out there, and there are several different subseries, so you can pick from a few different starting points. Most of the books are standalone as well, so you don’t have to worry too much about continuity and prerequisites for each book.

I started out with Going Postal. I think that series is a good starting place.
