I can’t find it anymore, but i remember reading an interview with Colin where he said he’d love to work with Maggie more but that she was ill and oh it’s so heartbreaking
Got a 7 hour car journey coming up soon, perfect time to listen to Trials of a Time Lord and Morbius the Mighty
Started Intervention Earth tonight.
If it’s released by the time i come home, i might listen to The Mirror Matter on the way home
I’m (re)listening to The Alchemists right now and something Susan says made me think I don’t like how important Earth and humanity have become in the future in some stories.
I don’t mind the “surviving against all odds” perspective the new series has on it, but I still wish we were less important. Politically.
Do you remember what she said? I’m interested now
The framing story is Susan writing a letter to Barbara, from which she tells a story from her travels with the Doctor before An Unearthly Child.
She points out they were always landing on Earth and that was quite strange, considering how the Earth is not a particularly important place in the grand scheme of time. Which is my favorite stance on it!
Anyway, for me that’s a cute callback (or forward call?) that the TARDIS itself was aiming to take them to Ian and Barbara (just like I have a headcanon that the TARDIS itself was doing its best to not get Ian and Barbara home).
I (re)listened to “The Beginning”, “The Sleeping Blood”, “The Alchemists” and “Quinnis” tonight. Restarted my project again because I got some stuff last month and I wanna do a physical “diary” for it. Chose not to reread “Frayed” and “Time and Relative” purely for time. All of those stories I have written reviews for and posted them on the site.
Anyway! My opinion didn’t change much, but to be fair I have listened to those stories so much that it’s to be expected. The overall impressions are still the same: The Beginning is wonderfully written and has some great ideas, but Stoyn feels out of place for me; The Sleeping Blood tried to tackle a way too complicated topic for that short of a runtime, it doesn’t come together very well; The Alchemists have some really good dialogue, but I dislike how it handles the plot and Susan’s role on all of it; and Quinnis is a super enjoyable horror story.
The Beginning and Quinnis stayed pretty much the same for me (both 3.5/5); but the things I don’t like about The Alchemists didn’t bother me that much this time. Not changing that 1.5/5 tho. The Sleeping Blood got a bit worse. Going down to 2.5/5.
I think I’ll change or add some bits in some of the reviews, but that’s a mission for a Lucas that has slept, later today.
We actually have a thread if you want to talk a bit about these stories and how they fit into the greater narrative of the Doctor’s life.
A 5 out of 5 story!
Not heard The Nowhere Place for a few years now but I loved it when it first came out and always felt it was underrated. It’s quintessentially Doctor Who story. I’m looking forward to listening again when I get around to it.
Just dipped my toe in the “Dalek Universe” by listening to “The Dalek Protocol” with the Fourth Doctor, Leela and
Also it’s the first story with Anya Kingdom and Mark Seven that I’ve heard
Think I’ll try out some of this 10th Doctor Dalek Universe outings next
PLANET KRYNOID: Sunlight
I’m a huge fan of The Seeds of Doom yet have never really come across an audio Krynoid story that has really gripped me (and, yowzer, have I wanted one). If this opening instalment of Planet Krynoid is anything to go by, then this might just be it! A great start to the series. I’m invested in the setting and the people. There’s an interesting dynamic here, with secrets and agendas aplenty. Then, of course, a lovely cliffhanger at the end. This story has “seeded” itself in my imagination.
The Krynoids are back. The Krynoids are awesome!
Started Past Forward with the first 2 episodes of With the Angels. Loved it, looking forward to the rest of the set to hear where it goes.
It’s more Main Range for me with Scaredy Cat.
Might buy The Horror at Bletchington Station for the sheer hell of it
I hope you sleep well!
Finished The Nowhere Place, I gave it a 4/5! Really enjoyed it, although the last part lost me a tad. As much as I’ve liked doing the MR in order, it has been nice to do one arc in a row! I’m debating what to do next, was chatting on the forum last night about it in fact.
I’m debating possibly finishing Erimem’s arc off, as there’s not many stories left, and then doing the Hex/Evelyn stories side by side. I shall see, not decided yet!
I actually did Evelyn/Hex side by side way back when. It’s super rewarding. If you plan it right, the Forge stories slot just right next to each other and the two storylines merge very well together.
That sounds cool! I was planning on doing it in release order, what order did you do it in?
