Finished listening to The Rani Elite. 6s and Peri’s characterization felt like it could take place during s22 or 23 even tho its set in the Older Peri arc but Siobhan Redmond makes a wonderful Rani.

Halfway through A Thousand Tiny Wings. It’s so good and the pairing of 7 with Klein works so well. It’s also interesting listening to this as part of my ‘history of the universe’ marathon because I’ve been effectively taking the slow path through history that Klein has. Loved the references to De Flores in South America.

I was really not looking forward to Project: Nirvana. I have no recollection of the Lysandra and Sally characters, let alone of them being companions. My overriding memory of the “Project” audios was one of frustration. When the second one came out a couple of years after the first one, it was bad enough, but when the third one came along 7 years later, the idea that we were supposed to remember anything from prior audios seemed insane.

So, it’s in that frame of mind that I put on this disc. It certainly made for rather a different listening experience. But it turns out I didn’t need to remember the characters to enjoy the story.

Just listened to “The Gift” from Doom Coalition 2.

So far this has been a very middle-of-the-road season, no real highs, but no real lows either.

And now someone has sent a card saying “Hello Sweetie!” to the TARDIS, whatever could this mean for the fourth story :grin:

Finished Doom Coalition 2 with “The Sonomancer”.

Loved Helen and River together, but overall the story was a bit meh, it felt like it was lacking a solid original idea and just coasted along on “sci-fi vibes” (and the novelty of featuring River in one of her first Big Finish stories).

Ratings for Doom Coalition 2:

  1. Beachhead 3,5/5 :star:
  2. Scenes from her life 3/5 :star:
  3. The Gift 3/5 :star:
  4. The Sonomancer 3/5 :star:

Quite a step down from Doom Coalition 1 if I’m honest, but looking at the ratings for the third season I am feeling quite hopeful :slightly_smiling_face:

three episodes into today’s classic doctors new monsters release! i’ve heard only one singular story from this range before but never dipped in (always been a bit miffed they have tended to do 2 parters with the same monster and not 4 monsters). well damn am i impressed, i’ve rated them highly on my profile! i really am shocked at how good this set has been, and the loose two parter was SO GOOD.

Finished The Living Darkness. Finished as it started, fine, solid, totally inoffensive, just a crushing sense of deja vu with it being the very next release following Fugitive of the Darkness.

Haven’t listened to the extras yet so they may explain this older companions reuniting with the First Doctor is a plot leading somewhere but in all honesty, that still won’t save it from being a poor creative decision in my opinion.

Not sure whether to do Deadly Strangers, Unknown Soldiers, Zygon Century or CDNM 5 next…

Really enjoyed the first episode of Classic Doctors New Monsters 5. That was a lot of fun! Particularly liked the music which was full of lovely low, dark tones, and of course the twist…

Zygon -1935: The Miracle of Pendour Cove by Lauren Mooney and Stewart Pringle

If the first, very fine story didn’t make me grateful for purchasing this set (which it did), then this second story did. This is a beautifully told tale, wonderfully played and sprinkled with BF’s usual sound design. AND it featured The Bride of Frankenstein (my favourite film).

Inevitably, there are those who say that BF isn’t quite what it used to be. People always say this kind of thing. Stories like these prove they’ve not lost any of their knack for delivering the goods. A truly great story.

Apart from the The Annihilators, this is my first experience with Michael Troughton as the Second Doctor. And, he does okay, though I prefer David Troughton or Frazer Hines in the role. I am noticing though, that there are times when Michael Troughton almost sounds more like Geoffrey Beevers than his father.

Listened to The Raincloud Man, another fun story in the 6/Charley arc with a return of Menzies. They had 6 say maybe one day to traveling with Menzies and that’s still not happened yet :sob:

I’d love to see Menzies back again!

Although 1957: Double Agent by Trevor Baxendale doesn’t quite match the slow-burning twists and turns of the previous emotional story, it does put the Zygons at the forefront of the action. Little Rega from Planet of the Spiders, Joanna Monro, plays an imperious Krozon, and very effectively too. Michael Troughton gets better and better as The Second Doctor; he’s adept at the silly ‘oh my Giddy Aunt’ lines, but also invests a subtle steeliness into the proceedings when the Doctor gets serious.

Jonathan S Powell is a terrific director and once more gets some really good voice artists for this. I really look forward to his work on the upcoming Krynoid set. Trevor Baxendale nicely continues the theme that although Zygons are monsters, they’re not the only monstrous ones in attendance.

Zygon Century: Infiltration has proven to be an excellent set. If monster spin-offs like this are to feature in the future for Big Finish, then they’re off to a great start.

Listened to the audio book of the Leisure Hive today, and as anything read by Lalla Ward, it was a delight

He’s great, isn’t he? It’s not exactly the same, but he’s said himself that he isn’t trying to mimic his father, but rather go for his own interpretation. I did notice one thing when listening to this one, though, which did bother me slightly. The “clearing the throat” thing he does, I found that he did that a lot, almost too often. Did Pat do it that much as well or is this an exaggerated trait? Once I noticed it I couldn’t stop thinking about it every time he cleared his throat, and it was annoyingly distracting.
