Finally started Deadly Strangers today and listened to Puccini and the Doctor, a little underwhelming but still decent, and the next two stories look really promising

Yeah that era of boxsets ranges from middling to decent to literally agonising to listen to and it’s a bummer. That last boxset (Missing Persons I think?) is actually good though (and has Seán :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:) but unfortunately you do need all the rest of the episodes before it for context

Listening to The Ghosts of N-Space (obscure much), and wow have I missed the Third Doctor and Sarah together, but who on Earth decided to call the scifi explanation for ghosts of the week “N-Space”? It’s really jarring, it just makes me think of Season 18’s N-Space/E-Space.

Is it really obscure DW media if it isn’t baffling and confusing :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

You have a point there. It’s one of those moments which makes me go “haha, wouldn’t it be funny if Sarah and Romana met up to discuss what they both insist is N-Space?” Everyone* knows the novels and BF audios are bonkers but I think some of my favourite wilderness era EU content is the radio dramas and BBV video stuff (Liz!!!)!

*very few people actually

That would be a Mr Barry Letts who as a Doctor Who writer made a brilliant producer…

And indeed, a very good radio drama writer!

Starting this morning by listening to “The Undying Truth” from New Benny Vol 6 (Lost in Translation) :slightly_smiling_face:

I really liked how that second story ended

Total repeat of the Time Lords appearing in The War Games. Super cool with “In Colour” being so recent :+1:

It’s a shame his radio sci fi isn’t brilliant, IMO. Ghosts has a lot of characters talking to themselves describing what they can see. I did very much enjoy Paradise though. I remember listening to it when it was broadcast on the radio back in the 90s!

Redacted: Angels and Interrogation: The series continues in style!

Out of Time: A lot of it just happens because why not, but it’s a fun enough story.

Ninth Doctor Adventures: Sphere of Freedom: What was that all about?

Some of the Ninth Doctor Adventures box sets are really good. That one isn’t one of them.

Partway through Gallifrey - Appropriation. I’m still loving Darkel and the way she grabs on to any tiny chink in Romana’s armour to further her own self interest.

The second one is definitely a step up. I must get around to the later ones.

There’s good stuff in the Ninth Doctor adventures. There’s also some just kinda meh stuff too. The problem with Ravagers is that it’s a Briggs-penned timey-wimey sci-fi epic that’s loud and bombastic. Eccleston gets some triumphant return moments, but I definitely don’t think this should’ve been the range’s opener.

Star-Crossed is the best one.

I listened to New Benny: Inertia. Another great episode with good banter and some fun themes. And yet another tantalising ending. It made me squee because of NARVIN!!!

Also listened to the first part of Davros. And by Coldstream’s teeth, it is a brilliant story! What they’re doing with Davros in it is beyond words.
