I was decidedly bored by “The Sky Man”, entirely too predictable and I don’t see what should make me have an emotional response to either Cole or his friend (whose name I’ve forgotten…)

Finished Reflections today and I thought it was really good.
Interested in where it goes from here which means I’m definitely still invested. Next release I’ve got coming is the Fugitive Doctor’s BF debut so keenly awaiting that, especially as I really enjoy Carley’s War Doctor too.

Just started listening to the second Master! season: Nemesis Express. Listening to the first story, the titular “Nemesis Express”.
Eric Roberts is absolutely amazingly vicious as the Master on audio!
He has definitely overtaken Alex McQueen on my list of favourite audio Masters, only Geoffrey Beevers to go 
And I have developed a soft spot for Vienna Salvatori lately 
(I have got to get around to buying “Retribution” when a sale comes around)
Space Assassins seem to be my thing lately: Vienna Salvatori, Doom, Brian the Ood, River Song (she counts right?)

Now that I’ve got the complete Eleventh Doctor Chronicles I’ve relistened to Geronimo! before starting the rest.
Really enjoyed the first and third stories (The Inheritance and The End).
Least enjoyed The House of Masks.
Loving Valarie Lockwood.

Yeah I’m really sad to say it because I think his performance is great but I’m not loving the War Master stories as much as I thought I would.
They so far mostly go in this format:
First couple of stories are set in some far off world, or back in time, with some people who we don’t know, and for some reason the Master is behind the scenes being menacing. He is barely in it.
Third story the Master is even more menacing and it looks like a plan is coming together.
Last story the Master is actually in it more, and he has been scheming all this time to develop a weapon for the Time War. He usually wins. Rinse and repeat.
Without the sheer bonkers madness of Missy, it’s just not as fun to follow this Master. He is simply wicked and heartless, which can sometimes be fun but only in small doses.
The Persistence of Dreams, in particular, was like a punch to the gut 
After Anti-Genesis I will take a break from it!

My controversial opinion (yes, my only one, honest… ) is that Derek Jacobi isn’t actually that good a Master. In Utopia he is hugely generic in the brief scene he is actually playing the character and he’s been fine in the War Master stuff I’ve heard but nothing spectacular.

Anti-Genesis is definitely a break from this format, there’s some Master-lite-ness, but that’s later, the first few are full throttle Jacobi, and he really does get to have some fun with it as well as doing all the scheming

Listened to The Three Monkeys, another great Andy/Owen audio. Was nice to have a more lighthearted one after the last two. Their dynamic was as great as ever

Killing Time (War Master 6) is quite good. Very brutal, but good. It basically boils down to the Master has a scheme, but it’ll take time to cook. So, the first and fourth discs are the scheme with a rather fun foil for the Master. The middle two discs are the Master literally killing time waiting by torturing (primarily psychologically) Jo and Nyssa. As I said brutal, but very well written and acted playing heavily on the history the two companions have with the Master. It was probably my favorite of the ones I’ve listened to.
