CHARLIE: April, I think you take Halloween a little too seriously.
No such thing!!
I adore April, she’s great.

Oh this audio is delightful.
Lizzie Hopley, you cooked.
Just banger line after banger line, and really creepy and atmospheric too. This is how you do it, Mooney/Pringle! Take notes!
I can’t believe I got jumpscared by a Class audio
thankfully I don’t think anyone saw.
Fallen Angels is so good, probably the best of the set in my opinion. Though the Sontaran Ordeal coming in a close second.
Going to start Full Fathom Five in a few minutes.
Good to know. I do like a Sontaran story, hopefully I enjoy this one too!
Been relistening to 1963: Fanfare For The Common Men all week as I’m going to sleep, that really is a favorite! As a Beatles fanatic anyway it’s just a really fun story, and the faux Beatles music is really hilarious. I’d forgotten the actual plot, but it’s very clever, this is for sure one of Eddie Robson’s best. I might relisten to all the 1963s after this, I remember liking all three!
For new listening I’m up to The Ribos Inheritance in my 7DAs, but I liked Bad Day In Tinseltown so little that I am afraid haha. I might greedily skip straight to Uncharted: Branches and complete all available 8DAs aaaaaahhh.
I really like Judoon In Chains from that set too, if you’re into 6 that’s such a good showcase for his character!
started listening to goth opera. i really liked the book so i’m interested to see how they adapt it
I had suchhh a good time listening to that one ![]()
wowwwww i’m so shocked to hear that ![]()
Finished Full Fathom Five, that was dark, but really good. Now onto Technophobia.
Getting me 10k steps in, listening to Foe From the Future.
Leela just offered to bite someone.
There’s the ghost of a monk which was very spooky. (Spooky season!)
I underestimated how nippy it was. I’m starting to suspect wearing shorts was a poor decision… looks like I’ll be needing me bloody gloves soon!
Still, it helps the atmosphere. They should’ve held back the Crispy master trilogy and released it in October: was a struggle to get in the mood for that one, in the middle of a heatwave!
It’s the perfect time to listen to Foe From the Future!
Louise Jameson is such an incredible actor. Sometimes with Big Finish you’ll find the actors phoning it in, not really giving it their all,
But I believe I’m yet to see Louise do this.
She continues to impress and intrigue me with her choices, like the way she delivered the line:
“More guards… why are there always MORE guards?”
I don’t see many other actors deciding to deliver it in a similar way.
And the bit at the beginning where she reads “to be or not to be” was super impressive. I completely bought that Leela had never heard those words before. She’s just incredible.
She’s the best forever <333 nobody will EVER do ‘my doppelganger pretending to be me’ as good as she does in Gallifrey: Disassembled !
I listened to Judoon in Chains and had a great time with it. I’m starting to become a bit of a 6 fan this year and this is a story that is particularly well suited to him. Loved this different take on the Judoon.
Listened to The Great Train Robbery yesterday which was fine but nothing hugely special.
Then my first Spooktober story with The Labyrinth of Buda Castle which was a pretty fun vampire romp.
Listened to a couple of audios while commuting around today
Restricted Items Archive Entries 031-049: great character piece for Ianto with a brilliant ending, I could listen to hours of him just listing the strange objects they have at Torchwood 3, 9/10
Hour of the Cybermen: surprisingly brilliant, a classic Cybermen story with a lot of emotion and some really compelling side characters, also 9/10
Continuing my journey through the Eighth Doctor adventures with Situation Vacant (fun) and Nevermore (was Alan Barnes on a bet to put as much Poe in this as possible?). Next up, Book of Kells. Wonder who this Ash Hidminster is, it’s his only credit /s.
The Tivolian Who Knew Too Much
I’ll admit that, initially, I wasn’t entirely sure why anyone had decided to pair the Fourth Doctor with the Tivolians. Having listened to The Tivolian Who Knew Too Much, however, I completely get it.
What follows is a riotously whimsical adventure that taps straight into the irreverent spirit of the Graham Williams era. This is a period of DW I consider creatively superb and far too often underrated. The Doctor wandering around Rome and its environs whilst tangling with gangsters is, of course, highly reminiscent of the peerless City of Death, and the story wears that influence as a badge of honour rather than a burden.
Volan Steezil, the crime boss, is an absolute delight. The notion of a Tivolian who has somehow decided that a life of organised crime is preferable to being perpetually conquered is gloriously absurd, and entirely convincing (he’s a genuinely nasty fellow). Timble Feebis is equally wonderful: a Tivolian whose chief ambition appears to be a quiet holiday, only to find himself dragged into precisely the sort of chaos he would dearly like to avoid.
And then, of course, there’s Leela (all courage and determination) having to navigate this increasingly ridiculous adventure alongside the timorous Feebis. The pairing is an absolute blast.
Well paced, genuinely funny and affectionately steeped in the very best qualities of the Williams years, The Tivolian Who Knew Too Much is a beautiful homage to a particular kind of Doctor Who (and some of the best of the Tom Baker years). Witty, eccentric, slightly anarchic and completely unafraid to be silly. Inspired. An utter delight! ![]()
Saturday afternoon I listened to Tenchophobia, I loved it when it first came out, but I think a lot of that was because it was Tennant’s first proper Big Finish as Ten and nostalgia drove a lot of it. It’s still good, but it dropped from a 4.5 rating to a 4.
Today, I’m going to listen to Infamy of the Zaross with Ten, Rose and Jackie.
