What are you currently listening to? (Part 2)

I agree with you that it might be time for this, but I do still think the post-Stranded stories are excellent

Realise I haven’t spoke about this since my return, but yeah… I was really hoping that last years two 8 sets were gonna move them forward as promised. They did, but by like an inch.. :sob: I want ongoing adventures back even if its arcless at this point just ongoing 8 please!

Agree to disagree on Tania though I really love her and Liv and together, but I do hate the way the exit was handled really. Feels like he’s in limbo rn.

I actually really like Liv and Tania and I do think it’s a life she could like but only take when she feels she’s done traveling with the Doctor. But I’ve also been loving the post-stranded stories, so ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ

I have also been enjoying the post Stranded stories don’t get me wrong!! I just truly don’t think Liv will be leaving the TARDIS without a catastrophe. And I think going back to a relationship where they lie to each other about everything and argue all the time and want different things from their lives… Well, I think it would be interesting but I do not think it would be happy :person_shrugging:

Some of these stories are so good, yeah, I basically loved all three in Connections, Albie’s Angels is one of The Best 8DAsā„¢ļø! For me, it’s just that these three as a team have been forged in the fire of these gigantic universe-shaking arcs, and removing that element but keeping exactly the same team can make these one-offs feel a little, I dunno, immaterial? I’m almost done with Echoes, these are good stories but I don’t find them great.

Oh, that’s fair enough, but I was getting a little burned out on every story being universe-threatening, so I’m enjoying a monster-of-the-week format

TOTALLY get that perspective. I certainly haven’t disliked a single one of the post-Stranded stories yet!

Honestly, I just felt like the post-Stranded sets gave me my beloved Liv and Helen back so I adore them for that. It just genuinely didn’t feel like them anymore in Stranded and having stories in which they’re written well again was such a relief

Where is the chemistry??? She has lots more with Helen!

SO TRUE!!!

I am a livhelen truther but honestly even putting that aside I think Stranded would be so much better if Tania broke up with Liv at the end because I want Stranded to be a story about Tania’s self confidence and growth from ā€˜oh I guess I’m ok with people not hating me’ to ā€˜actually Liv, I do love you but you want to travel and I want to stay here and I now am so much more sure in myself that I can see our lives are too different and I deserve someone who meets me exactly where I’m at’

Because right now, Tania is at home, what…? Waiting for Liv? How is that fair on her?

Good Stranded that lives in my head, if only you were real :smiling_face_with_tear:

Tania truly got the patented Ryan Sinclair level of cardboard personality didn’t she?

This week I’ve listened to the five serials in the Pisces series, a ā€œspin offā€ from the Audio Visuals series. My overall thoughts are here.

I’ve started the main Audio Visuals series now. The first part was fairly poor, but the second serial, with Briggs is fairly solid so far.

Listening to ā€˜The Doctor’s Tale’ from the Early Adventures, as I really like Ian and want to listen to some of his audios. I’ve been thinking a lot about his episode in Susan’s War, and wish we had got more older Ian stuff.

GUY: This is no route for the meek or the old.

IAN: (Sounding every bit like a 90 year old man) Well I’m hardly that.-

Mount Companion Chronicles has finally been climbed. When I started seriously listening to this range in September 2023, having dipped in my toes in April-ish 2022,[1] The Second Doctor: Volume Three was the most recent release. As I powered on, that didn’t change, so I assumed, like many, that the show was over. There’ve been two more box sets since last April, but I continued to have an eye on completing ā€œThe Deepest Tragedianā€. Now that’s done, I don’t feel much, as often seems to happen with achievements this grand.

The story itself is okay. Zoe meets a man with a messy mind, learning the underwhelming truth behind it as she acts out scenes with him. Wendy Padbury and Ricky Unwin, the man, do a great job, and there’s one or two interesting details about Zoe. Did you know that she can only whistle with her fingers?

  1. through Series 2, the only one on Spotify ā†©ļøŽ

Not technically new, but I’ve finished writing my review for Pursuit of the Nightjar after my last listen.
On Substack at the moment, and I will be porting it to TARDIS Guide when I can

Partway through the first episode of Mind of the Hodiac. I’m liking the Wind in the Willows stuff and intrigued by the Hodiac. The family going to the psychic research centre is giving me Omega Factor vibes and Annette Badland is wonderfully fruity as Mrs Chinn. Not sure I like the music which seems to be pushing for RTD1 rather than 80s Colin.

Nearly 3 parts down with The Barbarians and the Samurai, the Bradley 1DAs are so far 2 for 2 on pure historicals. Really nailed the 60s feel in all the stories too
