Sorry to be a bother, but do you think it would be possible to create a trackable list for the Titan comics in Comic Club Order? I think it would make things easier for people who are trying to follow along with Comic Club.
I also think that the animated reconstructions are not being counted towards Doctor totals on the stats page.
Another question I have is why Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures can only be tracked by season, instead of overall like Doctor Who. Wouldn’t it be nice to offer people an overall tracking option?
I appreciate you challenging yourself with this project. We will continue iterating towards refinement!
(Smiley face used to show that I am not a threat)
I need to speak to @Tian about this who does the comic clubs - which is incorrect, the order on the site or the order of the club?
Sets only ever go in date order.
If this is what I think you mean then it’s on purpose - stats only show unique number of stories so I don’t want to artificially inflate the numbers just because eg the Second Doctor has lots of animations.
That’s a good point actually. I am going to offer to track Doctor Who by season/series soon (because some people jump in at a certain series), but I didn’t think of doing it the other way. What’s the main reason for wanting to do this? Other than having it consistent?
Thanks!
I don’t think either is wrong, it’s just that the comic club reads by volume, the issues of which were released somewhat simultaneously (so the first volumes of each doctor all came out during the same year)
These last few days, since getting back from the London meet up, I’ve had the opportunity to work on the site but just have been feeling a bit burnt out so I’m having a rest!
It’s good to sometimes just chill out, play video games (I’m playing Satisfactory), listen to some audio dramas, watch K9 (ok scrap that last one), and worry about doing work later.
So, sorry for the slow progress on some things but I’m having some me-time!
The next big thing - because doing anything else first would necessitate re-doing stuff - is the fresh coat of paint the site will be getting! A redesign!
But nothing as dramatic or controversial as the Big Finish redesign. No features will be lost. It will just look slicker, and give me a framework to more easily add things in the future.
Exciting times!
Well, you could be the 20th person to gain the badge, but you do you
No need to apologise! You’ve done so much in such a short time period, so you’ve earned some time off!
So you’re redecorating? I hope I’ll like it!
That’s a bold claim! But I know I can trust you on that one!
Well it was a very short burn-out: I spent some time yesterday working on the redesign and it’s so fun!
It’s looking really nice. Can’t wait to be able to show you (I’ll show Patrons first!).
For anyone else who knows about web design, I always have used Bootstrap, but that’s pretty old now and I have switched to Tailwind which is so quick and easy to make really great looking pages!
I’ve already built a new feature as well - on the new site you can press CMD-K at any point and the search box pops up, this makes it really easy to jump around. It’s cool! (CMD-K is a whole thing on sites these days. Windows people can press CTRL-K).
But I also got some me-time in last night when I played Pikmin 4 which is adorable!
Sorry for lack of updates - the new website design is coming along nicely, but a little slowly.
I’m going to share a sneak preview of what I have done so far for Patrons
And we were really happy with it!
Sent out an email newsletter - always forget about these lol, just sneaked it in there at the end of the month because I’m going for monthly
Oh, by law you need to have a mailing address on every email sent.
I could either dox myself by providing my own home address (I don’t have a “business address”), or use that one which complies with the law because any post sent there is forwarded to me, that’s a service ConvertKit provide!
So this means we can send you fan mail now!
We should send you fan art and fanfics and lovely letters
Haha unfortunately what they actually do is scan the mail and send me a PDF, I don’t get the physical thing.
So don’t send anything important there!!
Spent some time working on the new site design today!
Had a bit of a frustrating morning as everything stopped working and I was completely baffled as to what was wrong. Then I remembered I updated my computer operating system yesterday. I had to update some dev software but then it still didn’t work, until I tried the one solution to rule them all…
Yes that really does work 90% of the time!
So with things working again I ploughed ahead, and got lots of complicated back-end stuff done which I’m pleased about but nothing much to show.
I also completely changed how profile images work, they will be updated via the forum only, this makes loads of things easier for me and allows me to remove some bloated stuff from the site. I then did some work to put those changes straight to the live site so we have more time with it, glad I did that!
Lots to do, not sure how long it will take, but I’m really liking what I have so far!
Yep, as someone who was doing tech support until recently, turning it off and on again helps a surprising amount of the time!
I’m watching The IT Crowd for the first time now and enjoying it! Already finished the first season this morning…
I haven’t updated this in a while!
But I’ve been working hard on the new site design, and it’s not just a fresh coat of paint, I have already added some new little features which will launch alongside it.
But trying not to get distracted by those - ideally I want to launch the new design as soon as I can and then add the new features quickly afterwards because I love the new design so much
The new colours etc may be polarising so I am working on adding a few different themes people can switch between, and I’ll do a beta testing round with patrons first and then anyone else who is interested.
So excited for you to see it!!
Same as before - I’m continuing to work on the new site and update Patrons on how it is going!
But something else I did today, while I listened to a really boring audio (The Sandman) - ever since I consolidated “Doctors, Companions, and Villains” all into one box, the order they were presented in on Story pages has bugged me - it has been wrong!
So I went in and edited all 347 Doctor Who TV stories and fixed them: the order I go for is the main Doctor first, unless it’s Doctor-lite, then the main companions, then the main villains, then any other cast.
The main reason for doing that now is because in the new site design only 2 characters appear by default, the rest you click a button to reveal. So it will mostly be the main Doctor and the main Companion shown here.
Lots of work for something many people won’t realise, but that was really satisfying to do! I may have to tackle some of the other ranges next.
As much as I really want to keep working on the new site design and get it launched ASAP, I also mustn’t neglect adding more content to the site, especially as lots of people have kindly worked on the spreadsheets for me!
So today I’m importing stuff - I’ve just added this set of Paternoster Gang short stories:
Phew, that took a while, but I added all the Television Soundtracks (thanks @deltaandthebannermen) - Stories only for now, not all the Collectable CDs, but…
I also added all the Vinyls (thanks @ineffyble !) so there is some crossover there.
