I just watched the first 3 episodes of the new Phineas and Ferb season and I love all of the episodes. It has the same tone as the original and the plots are fun. I wasn’t a massive fan of the show before but I enjoy season 5 right now.
We begin Midsummer’s Day by watching the newest Beck movie—it’s the 52nd entry in the series.
We were supposed to watch that last night, but we were too tired. Hope it is a good one!
Started another attempt to watch Titans on Netflix.
A few episodes in, and it strikes me as a very well-made Elseworlds-style Teen Titans show with dark, mature themes.
It’s also completely at odds with what many fans seemed to want when it was first released. Sure, there were the usual complaints about characters’ skin color, but I got the strong impression that—beyond this sadly ever-vocal minority—most viewers were just hoping for a modern take on the iconic The New Teen Titans series by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez, or perhaps one of the newer runs featuring Koriand’r and Raven in prominent roles.
Instead, what we got was a dark, gritty, and brutal interpretation. I understand why audiences didn’t react favorably to that.
Personally, I was able to set aside some of my expectations and appreciate the show for what it was. But as far as I recall, the series tried to adjust to audience feedback and, in the process, lost its identity—ending up in a sort of limbo where it was neither what it started as nor something excellent new.
That said, I’ve heard that by season 4 the show finally found its footing, so I want to give it another try.
Watched Justin Willman’s Magic Lover special on Netflix last night. We’ve enjoyed all his Netflix shows and he’s pretty funny too. Highly recommended (and suitable for whole families too). I could see where the final trick was going but that didn’t stop it being impressive.
Realised I never got round to watching series 3 of Slow Horses, so fixing that now!
Do they not speed up?
Yeah and that’s why I’m two series behind, I’m the slower horse
Watching a Love Boat episode. Every time I watch or think about this show I wonder how it would work with Six and Peri. (But I definitely would not create two other couples to weave into the storyline.) This particular episode has a plot I could see them in. Six would be the most lovingly protective husband.
I seem to recall The Love Boat did go in for crossovers, there was one with Charlie’s Angels and another with Fantasy island… er, not that I was watching or anything. Er, my sister must have had the television on and I was in the room… cough!
But, yes, I could imagine the TARDIS materialising onboard the Pacific Princess - or whatever it was called, I really wasn’t paying attention.
I’ve been racking my brain for the past two days trying to think of other DW/vintage TV crossovers that would interest me. I already know a few, but for anything more I think I need to hit the books.
Sixie and Peri could visit Fantasy Island. I’m sure that the Doctor would be intrigued by Mr Roarke’s activities. A crossover with The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman might be fun. Steve Austin vs Daleks, or Cybermen vs Fembots… I’d watch that!
Ha, I’m not really a big sci-fi person[1], so my thought process is more in line with I Dream of Jeannie, The Brady Bunch/Partridge Family, The Brothers, Dallas/Dynasty, Howards’ Way, Alice, Laverne and Shirley, 227, etc…and, of course, all the Colin shows.
But I do love Mork and Mindy, the show with the original rainbow-loving alien. Nanu-nanu!
exceptions apply, of course ↩︎
Oh, I could definitely see Sixie in an I Dream of Jeannie crossover. The Doctor inexplicably finds himself trapped in the life of US astronaut Tony Nelson, while Peri finds herself playing Roger Healy’s role. Their only hope of escaping this nightmare - Dr Bellows! Can the befuddled psychiatrist finally put two and two together and save the day?
Of course Jeannie would turn out to be some evil otherworldly entity - perhaps a kind of space parasite that was feeding off the real Major Nelson’s fantasies (in the modern series she’d be the Toymaker’s mother-in-law or something). Goodness, this stuff writes itself doesn’t it.
Just watched the premiere of a new drag reality competition show which is the first in the world to be focused solely on drag kings!!! I’ve seen over 60 seasons of Drag Race and bar the occasional king look or reference, they’ve never let a king compete so to have a show solely focused on them is so refreshing. Its not related in any way so different production, host etc. It was so fun and a great opener, and I feel like how I did when I first watched Drag Race some 8 years ago its so great! Its free on a streaming platform called Revry, with ads, or premium without ads.
They’ve got some really cool guest judges, and main judges including some Drag Race alumni. The big surprise to me is Paul Feig is a regular judge!! I’ve seen a fair few of his movies and one of them, Spy (2015), is one of my all time favourite movies.
I remember Paul Feig as the science teacher in the first season or two of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. It amused me when he got famous as a director several years ago.
I read in a book about Sabrina that he financed his early career with a win on The $100,000 Pyramid!
I’ve only ever read the books! :)
Stick with the books.
I would absolutely recommend scavengers reign!! It’s absolutely gorgeous and one of the most visually and conceptually creative scifi shows I’ve ever watched.
I just watched the three episodes of Ironheart that came out and it is so good. I am definitely looking forward to the next episodes.
