Sorry, I’m on your husband’s side. I’ve had so many shows recommended to me where people say “oh it gets good in season 2”. So I have to plod through a whole season before it gets better?
Maybe we should get Shauny’s hubby along to the next meet up - it sounds like both of us would get along with him famously Never could stand Babylon 5.
Shauny’s Hubby Forum, when?
Hey, B5 isn’t for everyone. It is one of my top 5 shows of all time, so I’m gritting my teeth and trying to remember that different strokes etc.
EDIT: and yeah, the first season is rough. It makes more sense in context of what was going on behind the scenes. On rewatch, I only watch about 6 episodes from the first season and move right onto season 2
For me Andor really picked up about the 5th or 6th episode, but I kind of appreciate the slow start.
Really loved it when Andy Serkis joined the cast later on.
It’s a whole other side of the Star Wars universe being explored, and I really like that
I agree. I like Andor because it’s different from the glut of mediocre D+ Live Action stuff. Gives me what I wanted from 1313 or the initial concept for the pre-Disney SW show.
For me, though, it isn’t different at all from Mandalorian or Boba Fett. They are equally languid in their pace with lots of characters muttering their lines. That said, I quite liked both of those. I’ve enjoyed most of the Marvel shows - She Hulk and Ms Marvel in particular were great fun and I also enjoyed Moon Knight a lot.
We never finished Andor either, we found it far too meandering and unengaging. I don’t mind slow, but the mystery or whatever they were setting up didn’t do anything for me
Babylon 5 is an epic show. It looks at different cultures and culture clashes. Its overall arching story is war: the seemingly low importance groundings being laid in season 1; the build up through to the other side seasons 2-4; and the implications of not tidying things up when war ends in season 5. Season 5 suffers slightly because they thought they might get cancelled at the end of season 4 so added some material to bring a semi- satisfying conclusion for fans if there was no final season. But it ends well.
There’s also some great timey wimey stuff in the middle as “Zathras knows”.
If you’re a Star Trek fan, Walter Koenig has a recurring part which is VERY different.
Like Doctor Who, you have to appreciate the time in which it was created.
Yeah, I know. I’ve watched through B5 20+ times. I had the collection on VHS and would watch the entire show on loop while I played games in my teen years.
Thinking I’ll have to get the DVDs off the shelf and watch it from the start again! A big time investment, but worth it.
“Zathras used to being beast of burden. Zathras have sad life, probably have sad death, but at least there is symmetry.”
I have never seen B5. But there are so many shows, mainly modern ones, where people say give it a season or 2! I am a middle-aged man. I simply do not have the time lol
I know what you mean.
Ah and there you may have found why I can’t get into it. I’m no fan of War stories. The Time War stuff from Doctor Who, especially the audio spin offs, are possibly the least appealing corner of the Whoniverse. The Dominion War stuff in DS9 also never appealed.
I Dominion War
Start your engines! Drag Race UK is back baby!
I read somewhere there is going to be a Doctor Who themed challenge
They should have done that in Season 2 with both Lawrence Chaney and Tia Kofi being huge Doctor Who fans!
Imho, the good thing about Babylon 5 is that you can skip Season 1 completely. (Speaking as someone who loves the show and has grown to appreciate Season 1 more with each re-watch. But still, there’s no reason to drag oneself through Season 1 if it’s not to one’s liking. The story works perfectly without it.)
