I totally forgot that we are moving into Torchwood now! But no complaints! I’ve only seen through it all once so this is a great opportunity to rewatch and review the episodes!

(My mind was set on The Runaway Bride, and I was in full Donna mode…).

I think I started to watch this episode once and got sidetracked? Don’t really remember it. Really haven’t watched Torchwoord.

New spin-off incoming in 2026: Torchvoord, the great assassin!

This story is pretty successful at introducing us to Torchwood imo. It’s not a story that I’d necessarily return to, given that it is just an introduction, but the story works, and the performances are great from the start.

Who the hell orders pizza under the name of Torchwood?

Ooh I had totally forgotten about this sidestep. I may join in with the TV club more now because I’m overdue a Torchwood rewatch.

(Children of Earth I’ve seen dozens of times, one of my most-rewatched series, but the first and second, not so much).

From memory this episode is great, an introduction to Gwen, she is brilliant, and to Torchwood as a whole.

TORCHWOOD TIME, LETS GOOOOOOOO

Think I might actually sit down and rewatch these for the club instead of going off memories!

I will rewatch this in the coming days. But I remember that I was not a fan of the first two seasons of Torchwood. My biggest problem is that all the main characters are pretty unlikeable or boring.

My biggest problem is Owen who drugs and rapes a couple in this episode and it is never brought up again.

I do like s03 and s04.

The best thing about this episode is that it not only introduces Gwen and the TW3 team, but also introduces the single most important character in the entire Torchwood universe.

It’s great that we have our resident Torchwood expert around in @JayPea! We can all learn stuff we didn’t know before.

Suzie Costello!!
I absolutely adore Indira Varma as Suzie Costello. She is a fantastic villain

And I love how none of the Torchwood members know about Jack’s immortality. On the whole this episode does a lot to show that the Torchwood team all are rather morally ambiguous (maybe apart from Ianto who is a bit vanilla from the beginning), which I really like for a basis for such a team.

And Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper is fantastic from the start. And her accent

I binged all of Torchwood in one go and it gave me a mass headache :face_with_spiral_eyes: — both because of the more adult-oriented plot and the fact that I watched it all in one go. Mostly because I watched too fast. Like eating an ice cream too quickly you get a headache

I need a rewatch to log my rates on the main site but never find the motive to… Guess I’ll try to stick with the TV Club schedule for this one then

It’s been years since I last watched Torchwood. This episode is a good setup but there are better to come.

My worst opinion on this is that I prefer s1 and 2 to 3 and 4  I just like the dumb hijinks more than the big plot stuff

Gwen Cooper.
Legend.

The show does a great job at introducing her.

They are basically two different shows s1-2 and s3-4 - it’s really wild the difference in tone between those two “eras”

Right! And s3 is very excellent, I’ll give you that, but 1 and 2 is more my style

Solid introduction to all the characters, and a good introduction to the general tone of the show.

Solid story with nice twists, that still hit. Even better when you remember the marketing at the time. It had Suzie in with the rest of the cast to avoid the twist.

3.5/5 from me.
