In an abandoned house, the Weeping Angels wait. The only hope to stop them is a young woman named Sally Sparrow and her friend Larry Nightingale. The only catch: the Weeping Angels can move in the blink of an eye. To defeat the ruthless enemy — with only a half of a conversation from the Tenth Doctor as help — the one rule is this: don’t turn your back, don’t look away and don’t blink!
I know that it is not ”cool” to say so these days, but Blink is my favourite episode of the show. The writing of this episode is flawless, and all the guest cast members are so good! It is also the best new monster of the revival, and they are never used as well as they are in this.
I want to be a contrarian and a hater, and though this episode isn’t a personal favourite of mine, it does deserve its reputation as an absolute banger. Because it is. Genuinely scary, completely unique, and it is always a treat to watch it
Eh, you know, typical RTD. Barely has the Doctor or the companion in it, and when he does put the Doctor in it, it’s David Tennant because of course it is.
Least we don’t have Lindy Pepper-Bean in this one…
I think the way it’s treated as one of the best episodes to introduce someone to Who with is unfitting, as it is pretty far off a “typical” Doctor Who story, I think there are better examples of Wobbly Timey Wimey stories, like Under the Lake/Before the Flood, and I think Moffat has better stories.
I still think Blink is a solid story, 9 out of 10, but nowhere near a favourite or a standout
I like Blink a lot but I don’t love it. While I love the angels and think the scares are effective, I never really felt emotionally attached enough to any of the characters for it to land as well as it does for other folks. Still an 8/10, and still great telly though
This is something that I agree with. I think that it is a perfect episode for a later episode of Season 3. When you know the concept well enough to be able to break it, that is when it is great.
The story fits together like clockwork and the script is witty & memorable. Also I love Carey Mulligan here (and in almost everything honestly).
The show’s had early appearances from people who went on to become bigger names. But I doubt anyone watched Andrew Garfield or Daniel Kaluuya on the show and thought those guys were going to become movie stars. You watch Blink though, and yeah it makes sense that this Carey Mulligan woman would go on to have the career she’s had.
I mean.. this one is quite good, isn’t it? I think it’s great fun and has a lot of Things going for it. Great use of the Angels, who have quite frankly a horrible track record on TV at least after that (although Village is great), some great new Characters such as Sally, some creative uses and breaking the mold well when it comes to a typical Who Story etc etc.
It’s certainly good, and I wouldn’t deny that. That all said, I think its high reputation has been a little damaging. Admittedly, I don’t think I was ever that invested in this one like many others were. It’s pretty good and not one I don’t mind watching at all, but THE introduction episode for Who? Nah, I don’t think so.
It still finds its way in my personal Top 5 for this Series, but I don’t think I will ever (sadly) have the same love for it than most people have. But still pretty good Piece of Television (woah what a controversial opinion!! Blink? Is pretty good? Now that’s a hot take!!!)
I think Blink is a great TV episode, but just like 73 Yards, I don’t think it’s a great Doctor Who episode. And again, like 73 Yards, I think it is much closer to The Twilight Zone or Thriller in atmosphere and style. Take out the Doctor and with good rewriting it might be even better. Certainly the ending is fitting for The Twilight Zone.
