I’m barrelling through TLV right now.
Master Thief wasn’t really all that exciting in the end and I gave it a 3/5
The Monstrous Beauty comic with the Ninth Doctor and Rose was great on the other hand. 4/5
Vampires always gets me excited
Really feel like things have been set in motion now. Next up is the Una McCormack book, All Flesh is Grass (or at least the first three chapters as I understand it )
The Minds of Magnox is just Brian the Ood going “step aside Doctor, this is my time to shine”
Brian the Ood is great! I want more of Brian the Ood!
And Jacob Dudman is such a good narrator and does a quite good 10th Doctor. And gets to pull off his party piece as the 11th Doctor in the Coda - that was rather
nice surprise
Now for the rest of “All Flesh is Grass”
I am a bit saddened that I won’t be able to experience stuff like the escape room or Time Fracture. I don’t like missing out
Ten chapters into “All Flesh is Grass”.
It’s really good. It’s fast-paced and really captures the imagination. And yes I am easy for a multi-Doctor story
Love how the Doctors keep simultaneously working with and against each other - all the while also having Daleks, Vampires and the Kotturuh. And it is so good that the Eighth and Ninth Doctors are having none of the Tenth Doctor’s Time Lord Victorious mentality
But come on, this book would be about 40 pages less if they hadn’t went with such ridiculously large margins. That’s just a waste of materials, look at it:
What? Noooo.
That was basically the whole reason why I wanted to do Doom’s Day afterwards
I have had that book in my Kerblam! basket for months going back and forth on whether I should buy it… In that case there are a lot of other books I will buy before that one
Right! Two and Nine would be such a fun combo! The book is well written but it has as much missed potential as the rest of the event. I would not recommend it if you don’t want the badge.
“Mutually Assured Destruction” was okay. And a rather important cog in the TLV machinery.
But this is probably the worst performance Paul McGann has ever given as the Doctor.
Something was up with him, either lockdown was getting to him, or alcohol was There were scenes where the Doctor is meant to be silly, but McGann takes it not to 11 but to 15, and slurs his words in a way that is super distracting.
The three 8th Doctor Big Finish stories are really important to the greater storyline, but this one doesn’t pack the punch it really should.
I am now done with Act 4 of TLV according to @Tian s guide to the Time Lord Victorious story order and have only the Epilogues left
I’d say you nailed it with the list - it is actually quite important to stick to it to get the full picture. Particularly with splitting up Echoes of Extinction and All Flesh is Grass.
I noticed that there is a small YouTube video on here with a Drag Queen going to visit Time Fracture - though that is completely irrelevant for anything, but it is on TARDIS Guide.
And then there was released a Time Lord Victorious Blu-ray with different stories with more or less relevance to TLV, though I am not sure if that is important to this guide in any way, shape or form.
The included stories were:
Planet of the Daleks
Genesis of the Daleks
The Deadly Assassin
State of Decay
The Curse of Fenric
The Runaway Bride
The Waters of Mars
Though Planet of the Daleks, The Curse of Fenric and The Runaway Bride are a bit of a stretch to be included in this story. There is really only the mention of the now 699 wonders of the universe from Planet that is mentioned. The Runaway Bride is more for atmosphere I’d say, how Donna was needed to stop the Doctor (and a couple of Racnoss mentions). I am not quite sure how Fenric fits into this story though (except that it is an evil from the dawn of time).
Why was The End of Time () not on that release instead?
The Deadly Assassin makes sense with the Master short stories, put doesn’t really do anything for the overall storyline either.
Maybe put a mention to Genesis of the Daleks and State of Decay on the guide?
(But not as a requirement for a badge I’d say)
Genetics of the Daleks was a good story and weaves the Fourth Doctor in the event in a good way. Generally the audios for TLV have been really good if not great
The little short story Canaries was nice, but rather confusing in the end. Was the Curator actually talking about Faction Paradox in regards to the long forgotten cult, the two masks and asking of paradoxes? Honestly I am a bit confused by that story, but nice how several Doctors were on the phone with Anke🙂
My fellow Scandinavian friends convinced me it’s time to prove our motto “Scandinavia Victorious!” rings true, so I decided to begin my trek through this event today.
I have completed the Prelude so far (following @Tian’s superb guide!).
Dawn of the Kotturuh = 8/10
This is a short but atmospheric intro and effectively introduces the Dark Times and the Kotturuh. Funny how it’s a race that brings “the gift of death” to planets - now we know where Sutekh got that line from!
The Guide to Dark Times = 6/10
The “story” in the 2021 Annual is written like a news article by River Song, and it’s a fine little piece detailing the various players of the event.
Lesser Evils = 6/10
This is a story I’ve listened to before, though without the context. The second Master Short Trip is a bit slow but helps flesh out the Kotturuh a bit more, and Jon Culshaw’s narration brings the Ainley Master to life very well. Still, not a very integral part of the narrative, I suspect.
Tomorrow, I’ll be rewatching The Waters of Mars and begin reading The Knight, The Fool and The Dead.
