Hey guys, I’ve been avoiding news and stuff about war between while I make my way through the other spin offs, so my question is how is it so far without spoiling anything for me do u like it do u hate it or is it potentially the best spin off ever? Let me know and I’ll read every comment!

I don’t hate it, and I don’t think it’s the best spin-off ever. But it’s good, solid TV. 7/10 so far, but I’m intrigued to see where it’s going in the remaining three episodes.

Ooo that’s really exciting to hear, my fave spin off so far is Torchwood but I still have class to watch. Sarah Jane Adventures feels too childish but that’s kinda the whole point so ill let it pass

Well the caveat being, I didn’t like Torchwood, the only SJA I watched was Death of the Doctor, & I’ve never seen Class.

It’s been really good so far! It’s hard to compare to the other spinoffs, just because it’s its own niche. We’ll see if it can hold up over time to match the consistent quality of SJA, it’s less gory/dark than Class, less edgy/trashy/silly than Torchwood S1/2, not nearly as grimdark as Children of Earth. It’s a very solid scifi drama aimed at adults.

Would those who have watched it so far say it works well as a standalone/first introduction to the Whoniverse, or does it rely upon prior familiarity with Doctor Who? If the latter, what are recommended prerequisites?

Works well on its own. There’s like two mentions of The Doctor, and UNIT already knows about the Sea Devils, but it’s all very open for new viewers. Unlike, say, the last two seasons.

That’s my big concern. I liked most of the individual episodes of RTD2; what didn’t work were the openers and finals sadly. It’s good to hear that this got the start right!

I’m finding it’s pretty shallow, and reuses alot of ideas from CoE, instead of doing it’s own thing. We’ll see if that changes later today though.

I don’t know how useful it is to compare the two shows as if everyone who watched The War Between was making some kind of statement about the quality of Doctor Who.
It’s been advertised as a kind of stand-alone science fiction show?

I’d be surprised if the difference in viewing figures is anything more than the fact this is on in the winter while the last two seasons have been on in the spring/summer, BUT I do think the BBC should investigate further, on the off chance there is something else going on.
