Thoughts on The War Between (spoiler-free)

I’ve found it pretty dull so far. I hope tonight’s episode gives the show a bit of variety and spectacle.

Also DW was on iPlayer first and we don’t know the iPlayer stats for TWB yet, it could turn out to have fewer overall viewers.

Excited for the next episodes!

I thought viewing figures weren’t important anymore? :man_shrugging:

They’re somewhat important, to certain people at the BBC, but the discussion online has been tedious since about 2014.

They’re not, it’s just the entire discourse about TWB has been “this is so good and popular, why wasn’t Doctor Who like this? Also DW should change to be a 5-part serial because it clearly is popular and good”.

But I’m saying you can’t really compare them.

Oh god, no. I hope that’s not their takeaway..

No, it should clearly be a six-part serial.
In fact, every new season of Doctor Who should just be a re-airing of Flux. And occasionally the specials, because we’ve got to have the Sea Devils. Those should clearly be the main takeaways.

I think it should be a six-part serial, in black and white and presented through telensnsp and production stills. You know, to bring back the good old days!

War Between good. That’s all I can really say, it’s bumped up and down from 7/10 to 9/10 constantly for me, and I’ve enjoyed all of it.

Somehow, it got worse. Just a fumble. The show is lurching about all over the place, characters are bland and forgettable, dialogue is ranging from nonsensical to amateur, pacing is crazy, and the show doesn’t seem to know what it is. It’s changed gears completely twice since it started. God knows what the finale will look like.

It really feels like you are watching a different show than the rest of us

I wish I were watching Children of Earth tbf.

I think this is shaping up to be almost as good, if not better, depending on the finale.

I do prefer CoE…

TWBTLATS coming off as a bit derivative. Repackaged ideas, tropes, scenes.

I enjoyed episode 3 for the visuals and new ideas. Those were original- but the rest feels like nothing we haven’t seen before.

Very conflicted about it. I don’t think ur watching a different show than the rest of anyone lol.

While I don’t hate it I share many of Koquillion’s opinions on TWB.

We are near the end now, and for me, it’s one of the most consistent Doctor Who shows/seasons I’ve seen. It’s neither mindblowingly good nor hopelessly bad but hovers somewhere in the upper levels of “good” to me. The writing isn’t the most original, and most of the characters are quite simplistic, but the performances are great, the production values are top-notch, the themes are spot-on, and every episode has delivered one or two great moments as well.
