Loved SJA at the time. On occasion, I preferred it to Doctor Who and Torchwood.
It had some great monster designs and concepts too, that I felt could’ve been in the main show.

We need a Big Finish range about how Graham becomes The Clown / the Pied Piper
I really hope we get another series of Rani Takes on the World!
I’d maybe move Gorgon up, but otherwise yeah I’d agree with that
Gorgon is HIGHLY underrated in my book. The daft bits are daft but I think it’s very touching and I find Maria to be quite highly relatable
I was just thinking about Mr Smith.
When I first watched SJA, I thought there must be some context to him, like maybe in Classic Who the Doctor gave her this computer and now here it is in her attic (I hadn’t seen any Classic at that point).
I thought I’d missed some origin story.
But no! It was just added for a cool thing for her to have, probably because K9 wasn’t usable at the time due to license issues.
But it’s so fun, and the way she named it like it was her husband
Then of course the inevitable episode where he turns out to be evil.
One day the Doctor should be stranded in London and he should go to Bannerman Road and break into the boarded-up house and fire up Mr Smith to save the day again
And when I first met Mr Smith, my first thought was they were going to make a story where he turns out to be evil. Little did I know it came in the very first season!
This was posted in the Torchwood: The Story Continues thread.
It’s because Tyler Steele is in The Story Continues, and he also meets Rani in Rani Takes on the World, and now he’s in the Torchwood monthlies.
It got me thinking:
Do we think that Rani will make the jump from The Sarah Jane Adventures (aimed at kids) all the way to Torchwood (aimed at adults)?
I would really like to see Rani appear on the TV show someday, I don’t really know why they haven’t had her do that. She could be investigating something and the Doctor bumps into her, like a School Reunion type episode.
Mohindra has worked on the main show as recently as series 12, so she would definitely be interested in it I think!
My main hope is that we get more Rani Takes on the World. I don’t think that she will be brought to the show because I don’t feel like she is recognisable enough for that. More or less the same reason why we don’t get more Big Finish on the main show.
I think it’s plausible she could make the jump to Torchwood, but like Tian I just want 10000 more Takes on the World. And if she ever came back to TV I literally would cry so much because I love her
The dream would be to have a SJA sequel starring Rani.
Rani Takes on the World was the first Big Finish boxset I ever listened to, it remains my favorite audio series, and I’m manifesting that more are released (my birthday is six months from now, which is enough time for Big Finish to announce and release a new boxset of it). I doubt that she will ever be on Doctor Who itself (although a guy can dream), but hey, no one ever predicted that Sutekh would reappear and have it be revealed that he never left, so anything is possible.
I don’t think Rani fits Torchwood, to be honest. I think her character would’ve been much more in place if her - and maybe Clyde - were in Stranded instead of Andy and Tania, for example.
I love Sarah Jane Adventures, and have the complete box set. I really need to get around to rewatching it, though I first need to find our working DVD player, which has been lost when moving house. It’s been a while but my favourite character is definetely split between K9 and Sarah Jane
Needed something nice to watch and turned on the first episode of SJA. It is such a nice show!
Didnt know this thread existed, what a great show this was!
We need a spinoff like this again.
As someone that was right in the age range for this when it was first on, it is still an amazing show. Like you could change the cast to adults and the show would still be great. It’s just that good and I think it may be my favourite TV show of all time, surpassing what it was spun off.
I still think The Trickster is one of the most unique concepts for a big bad in fiction. Less said about the creator, the better. But The trickster has a really unique concept that I can’t remember any show at all doing before
Also Luke was my gay awakening, I was a kid so no it wasn’t weird at the time lol. Also my gaydar was on peak even at 9-10 years old because no character that gets dressed like this is going to turn out to be straight.
I love sja, i finally convinced myself to finish it yesterday after putting it off because i didn’t want it to be over. I watched farewell, sarah jane as well, and started sobbing about it of course. despite being aimed at kids, there’s a lot more depth to it than I thought there would be at first, and there were a couple of episodes where I was very glad to be watching with more adult eyes so I could fully appreciate it
