I’m going to call shenanigans on this abstention of a list! I clearly stated televised Doctor Who! Big Finish is not TV! Thought you could get away with it huh??
Haha. Fair point about Seeds of Doom. It’s brilliant and should have been on my list, but Seeds of Death is more than just some foam. There are some very clever directorial flourishes. I like it.
Haha. As the list shows, I am more of a Classic Who fan. It’s a combination of familiarity and genuine enjoyment. Not to say I don’t like Revival Who. It’s fine. As for the River stories, for me, they are the most dense and enjoyable of Revival. IMO far too many modern stories have a great germ of an idea but don’t give me that longer, more developed story that I crave.
Oh yeah, I totally think you shouldn’t separate the three when analyzing the story!! They’re all fantastic episodes in their own right but they’re even stronger as a trilogy.
Yeah it’s so very much a story where every part elevates the other two. Like how Heaven Sent is very much about grief, but a lot of people tend to look at it alone and analyze it as like overcoming grief when really Hell Bent makes quite clear that the whole thing is him being trapped by it and never really moving past quite literally Bargaining.
Let’s see if I can avoid making my list 10 Capaldi stories
1.Under The Lake/ Before the Flood
2. Heaven Sent
3.WEAT/TDF
4.Remembrance of The Daleks
5.Earthshock
6.Turn Left
7.Midnight
8.Victory of The Daleks
9.The Happiness Patrol
10.The Caretaker
After this, we should hold a poll of all the episodes multiple people have said for a bloodbath so we can find the ultimate top ten according to the TG hivemind
I’m only a little late to this thread but here goes:
City of Death
Human Nature/Family of Blood
Heaven Sent
Midnight
Turn Left
The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances
Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead
Father’s Day
Vincent and the Doctor
The Doctor’s Wife
Quick notes: 2-4 are entirely interchangeable and I consider all of them my favourite of the revival
Also, I’m currently working my way through the classic era and don’t feel familiar enough with any to put them in my top 10 besides City of Death, because that is for sure my favourite episode of Doctor Who
