Great reviews, Coldstream! I agree with everything you said.
The working title for Helter Skelter was “Tegan Jovanka’s Bloody Annoying Groundhog Day” which I think is a belter title!

Thanks! That would have been a better title but also a bit of a mouthful ![]()
Just finished Helter Skelter and I absolutely loved it! Listening to Tegan get more and more exasperated as the time loops go on had me in tears, and this might be the first two parter that I’ve enjoyed unconditionally. 10/10
Getting around to this, Field of Miracles is a solid opener playing on some well worn tropes. Probably could have used a third episode to take full advantage of the premise, but the cast is fantastic. Love the ideas at the core but sadly it’s going to be dwarfed in comparison to the last three Fifth Doctor releases.
Helter Skelter was a treat. Obviously I’m always up for letting Janet Fielding just take the spotlight but I also quite like how Moran writes the Doctor, Tegan, and Turlough as just hating each other, it’s a dynamic that always feels fresh and never really was allowed to shine on tv.
And we round the set out on a high with Land of Fools. A bit predictable perhaps with the twist, I kind of wish that we got a little more where M wasn’t revealed. Picks up the ideas of grief quite well. I’ve also noticed Mooney and Pringle really do like to have narration as bookends to their stories.
Land of Fools: 6/10
A competent but familiar alternate timeline story with a strong sequel twist and a better villain than its predecessor. Turlough gets some good moments but never fully takes centre stage, and the story ultimately feels a bit surface-level with a too-neat resolution.
Concluding the Helter Skelter boxset, Land of Fools has a great setting but struggles to develop some of its key characters. 7/10
Helter Skeleter, absolute 100% banger. A delight, Moran has written Tegan so well. About time we had a TTC[1] story! Fielding was superb repeatedly peed off with having to explain things again & again to 5 & Turlough. Both Peter & Marc were also good. Instant favourite for me this one.

You get it! It’s so funny to do this kind of story with a character who’s got zero patience for it. No time for the long game or feeling it out, no time for repeating conversations, she’s just trying to brute force her way through the time loop and it’s magneficent.
@deltaandthebannermen, you got a Kate Harbour reply. I got James Moran (twice)

@shauny got RTD up close. You both lose.
I’ve met RTD irl & had Tim Foley wish me a happy birthday. When do I receive the keys to TARDIS guide?
