Spooky Doctor Who Stories

Sorry if I’ve missed a thread that already exists!

So with Halloween rapidly approaching I was thinking I’d watch some of the spookier stories to celebrate! Other than Blink and Villa Diodati, what do folks recommend? I was thinking mostly TV but open for general discussion of any spooky DW media.

Also doesn’t need to just be the recommendations for me, it’d be fun to discuss Doctor Who spookiness generally!

There was this discussion a while back:

TV: The Mind Robber (not exactly scary, but very surreal and does have this uncanny feeling to it), The Moonbase (I bloody love 60s Cybermen)

Audio: Night Thoughts (I had goosebumps, also Sylvester does a great job), No Man’s Land (a vibe similar to the new All Quiet on the Western Front movie, and has a really scary atmosphere of this squad slowly going insane in the middle of a battlefield)

I watched the Sarah Jane adventures: the eternity trap recently, and thought it was really creepy! Though it’s main audience is obviously children, the atmosphere, especially in the first part, was so well done I genuinely found it scary

I’m personally going to suggest The Image of the Fendahl

It’s weird as balls, but Ghost Light definitely falls into the “spooky” category; so does The Curse of Fenric, now I think about it.

Listen, The Empty Child, The Horror of Fang Rock and, of course, Midnight are also all really good.

Scherzo may not be exactly “spooky” as such, but is viscerally horrifying.

Ah totally had missed this, thanks and sorry for the second thread!

Maybe if I rewatch Ghost Light I can understand it this time :joy:

Thanks for the answers folks!

Gonna go for a relatively obscure choice in Station to Station, a spooky Ninth Doctor Audio - an dark, empty train station filled with people plucked from time that are constantly haunted by a rhyming ghoul in a top hat named The Grimminy-Grew. I use this word a lot but oh, the atmosphere in this one. A claustrophobic, creepy adventure wherein the Doctor is so scared that its even bleeding through his psychic paper. I cannot recomend this story enough!

As was suggested above, it has to be The image of The Fendahl, a fantastic, spooky story.

Image of the Fendahl is good. Ma Tyler is one of Who’s best guest characters. I adore her.

Been watching Image of the Fendahl this week after folks here’s recommendations! It’s such good spooky vibes. About halfway!

The Masque of Mandragora has some lovely elements, including dressing up in spooky masks.

Relistend to Scherzo and I thought I’d return here to confirm that it is, in fact, the scariest Doctor Who story.

(Those f*****g jumpscares, man. Those f**** *g jumpscares.)
