[Solved] "Disable Tracking Set" only temporarily disables it

So not exactly a massive issue, but I’ve noticed what I think is a bug:
The stories in the main range are part of multiple sets - there is one for the entire main range, one for stories 1-50, and one for each doctor. I don’t want to track all of them because then “My next story” just shows main range stories. I’m working through them in order so I’ll get to e.g. the next 7th doctor one eventually, I don’t need to be reminded of it. So I select “Disable Tracking Set” for “Main Range: Seventh Doctor” and disable it. It disappears, as expected.
BUT, when I next listen to a seventh doctor main range story, the set appears again, so it seems like the preference isn’t stored, or isn’t checked when deciding what to show on My next story.

Obviously not a major issue, I mean, I can live with it  but I thought it was worth mentioning!

What you need is to “Ignore” sets. “Disable” here means it gets hidden until you log another story in the set

Yes, there are three options when viewing a set and clicking the Track dropdown. Sorry if this is confusing!

Should the “Disable tracking” from the homepage be set to ‘ignore’ by default, do we think?

Ah, I interpreted “Disable tracking set” as “disable tracking of this set”, and “Ignore” isn’t on the dropdown… until you mentioned it now i didn’t realize that option existed, I see it now on the set page, thanks!

(I don’t really see the point then of “disable tracking set”… but I guess other people find it useful?)

I think I’ll change it to ‘ignore’, as that is probably the expected behaviour.

Thanks for the feedback!

Do you have stats to show how many people “disable” vs “ignore”? Maybe i’m the exception!

I track too many sets at the same time. “Disable” is handy if I decide to drop a series just for a while. When I pick it up weeks later I don’t have to worry whether I remembered to switch the set stasis — it automatically shows in my homepage.

Hmmm, not sure which is the better default then!

I was thinking maybe to disable automatic tracking of those sub-sets of Main Range, that would help because some people have found it confusing.

I’d rather it not be. I often use it if I’m skipping through a set and reach a stretch that I’m not interested in, but want it to still get automatically tracked whenever I complete something else. Is it not possible to just be able to do both from the homepage?

Could a copy change help with this. Disable tracking set and Paus tracking set?

Can we have a page that shows you which sets are subsets of others? Maybe also with tracking status

I think as @The_Monk that “Disable tracking set” sounds like it is going to continue to be disabled.

I think “pause” fits better than “disable”

I think so too. And maybe add both to the “more actions” menu.

I think the only issue is the naming convention, I’m not sure that “disable” is clear. But I’m not sure what else you could call it, “Hide for now”, perhaps? Then if you had both options on the home page dropdown everyone should be happy…

Incidentally I work in IT product management and face similar questions every day so I recognize this general problem very well

Then you would have liked mine and @shauny debate last week. Story Variations - how best to handle these?

Another one of them!

I’ll rename it to “Pause Tracking” for now.

Rather than add more options to the dropdown (which is getting crowded), I’ll eventually change the ‘View Sets’ popup to include the option to pause or ignore in there.

Added to my todo list!

I see it’s already updated, ah, if only we could get changes done that fast at work!

@Tian and @AlfieSigma thanks for sharing those threads, reading them now!
