IT Anyone?

Hi all,

I was reading through some posts here the other day and I got to thinking, “man, a lot of people here are either in the IT field or a related technical field”…!!!

I’m “officially” an IT Infrastructure Manager for a company based in Germany.

So is my suspicion correct, are many of you in a similarly technical field?

:sunglasses:

Well, I’m a web developer, but you might have been able to guess that

I’m a games software tester so pretty adjacent!

Started out as a Software Developer—Delphi, C/C++/C#, Java, and a bit of web dev were my jam.
About 10 years in, I switched to the dark side:  became a Scrum Master, Kanban Coach, Agile Coach, and OKR Champion, among other things. The so-called agile industrial complex has so many funny titles.
Not exactly thrilled with the bullshit that comes with these management (adjacent) roles, but I also can see the value, even if it’s often buried. Doing my part—hopefully—to bring more of the useful stuff into the companies I work for and less of the bull.

Wow! @shauny & @BSCTDrayden, Those jobs kinda sound like “dream jobs”! Maybe you noticed the work “Manager” in my title? That has a strange way of sapping the life and fun out of IT, LOL!

@Goibniu, I feel you man! Similar experiences…

I am a UX designer with a speciality in User research. I do some design but never more than wireframes. I like to solve problems but I can’t make things look nice.

@Tian, I had to look up what that was, but of course it makes total sense! LOL! That sounds pretty fun, unless I’m mistaken (???) :scream:

I like it. It is fun to talk to users and see how they use our product, and use that data to identify what problems they have and how to solve them. I used to work at a big consultancy agency, but I have changed and now I work for a big pharmacy in Sweden. I like working with a product that helps people, and it is nice to improve people’s days, even a little.

That does sound pretty rewarding! Thanks for sharing!

Mine is more providing IT for the company as a whole… It can be rewarding, in that rare moment… but not quite as often as your job I’m thinking!

The network users can be a very tough crowd!

Well, I was working tech support for 23 years, and tend to be pretty tech savvy. I’ve got a home network, an NAS, program, etc…

Having been laid off, I’m basically in the field of any job that’ll hire me at the moment, though.

Totally get’cha there @SweetAIBelle, I have felt the “lay off sting” before and I did not enjoy it much, sorry to hear that!

I also have been in the field a looooong time… You DO sound pretty savvy, I hope you get hired soon!

Oh, I am. Part of the trouble is I don’t really have the certifications or degrees to back it up, and I’m a bit limited by not having a car, too. And, of course, the job markets bad right now.

I’ll admit, I’ve been kinda slow on putting in for other jobs, too, since I do have money in my bank account to last for a fair while, and part of me is liking having a bit of time to myself. That and I’ve kinda been dealing with all the stuff I was too busy with a job for before…

Not me. I’m a retail manager. Can bash my way through some Java and home networking stuff.

I’m in my final semester for my comp sci degree atm, moonlight as a dev on the side, but bartending pays the bills . It’s so nice to see so many people in the fandom are tech nerds as well.

I mostly deal with C#, though I regrettably also know Java :cold_sweat:, I dabble in C for microcontrollers, and I can kinda sorta make a functional website, though the less people see my :sparkles: unique :sparkles: UI design, the better
